WHAT’S LEFT OF ME Cover Reveal!

Hi guys, Kat here! 😀

I’m soo excited to share the cover of What’s Left of Me with you today!! I know everyone says they love their covers, but I can’t help it, I’ve got to say it, too—I LOVE my cover.

I’ve been sitting on it for months now, literally (okay, not literally literally). This was apparently the first cover concept the designer came up with, and they decided to just stop there because it couldn’t get any better 😉 My editor emailed it to me in the middle of a summer road trip I was taking with Susan and Savannah, and I ogled it on a smartphone for the next few hours until Susan pulled over into a Starbucks so I could access the internet and ogle it on my laptop screen. (reason #93432545 for writer friends. they understand cover joy)

I’ve been dying to share it with everyone ever since, and finally, I get to! Okay, I’ll shut up now so you can actually see the cover:

Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t…

For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable—hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet…for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

Isn’t it gorgeous?? There’s a UK summary, too, which you can check out on Goodreads 🙂 WHAT’S LEFT OF ME is also now available for pre-order on Amazon! Hooray 😀

I hope you guys love the cover as much as I do!

Finally, in order to celebrate beautiful covers, I’m giving away one of the following books to one lucky winner! These are all 2012 debut books (that have already been released recently) whose covers I personally find gorgeous. I tried to include a variety of genres 🙂 Whoever wins the giveaway can pick any one book out of the following, and I’ll send it to them!

The giveaway is open internationally and ends one week from today 😀

    Oh my, it’s gorgeous :O

For me, a well-designed book cover is balanced (not too much content only one side of the cover) and simple. And the font should be nice, too 🙂 What I love about the cover of “What’s Left of Me” is the great use of space, and how balanced the composition is: the book title is balanced out by the image, and everything is so uncluttered and clean 🙂

Thank you, Sally! I love the great use of space on the cover, too! 🙂

    I love your cover!!

What I look for in a cover is: gorgeous colors, an interesting focus, and then, when I’ve read the book, real symbolism or significance.

    Yours has all of that!

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 12:07 pm #

😀 I’m glad the cover fits all the things you look for in a cover! Thank you!!

  3. Jocie Feb 17 2012 at 5:33 am #

    This cover is so awesome!

The thing I generally look for in a book colour is something eye-catching. I also love it when the cover is actually related to some sort of theme or situation, etc. in the book and isn’t just a dress or something thrown onto it (think Shatter Me for instance. Brilliant book, but the dress doesn’t make any sense to me. Juliette doesn’t even wear a dress in the book)

The book cover to What’s Left of Me is just so, so, so cool. I can’t stop staring. 🙂

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 12:08 pm #

Thank you, Jocie! Personally, I can’t stop staring at it, either 😉

Kat, this cover is SO BEAUTIFUL, but I think the thing I like best about it is at the very top… your name. 🙂 CONGRATS! <3

Oh my… Kat, KAT. It is beautiful. I mean, every single part of it is beautiful, you must be over the moon! The font’s incredible for the title, and I LOVE the font for your name, and the idea behind the artwork just blows me away. HOW did you survive sitting on this and not telling the world? Just, wow.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 12:10 pm #

I am very much over the moon!! There was a lot of quiet squee-ing going on 😉 Thank you, Amie!

  8. Giada M. Feb 17 2012 at 7:39 am #

Beautiful cover! Stunning! I love the colors and the great artwork.
What do you like in a book cover? The first thing…colors! And I also like mysterious book covers, covers that screm *read me* just by looking at them. 🙂

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 12:11 pm #

Thank you, Giada! Great colors can really pull a person to a cover, can’t they? 🙂

  9. Nicola Feb 17 2012 at 7:50 am #

    Lovely cover!

I generally like bright catchy colours and a good font is a must.

  10. Meredith Feb 17 2012 at 8:00 am #

Kat, that’s a gorgeous cover! I can’t stop looking at it.

What I look for in a cover can’t really be pinned down. I’m drawn to things that are different, things that stand out from the pack, things that I stare at for way longer than I should. I’d say your designer hit the mark on it. 😉

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 2:46 pm #

Thank you so much, Meredith! I am ready to regale my designer with chocolates and flowers ;D

  11. Sooz Feb 17 2012 at 8:07 am #

Woohoo!! So, so, *so* beautiful. Easily my favorite cover of 2012. 😉

  12. Carl Feb 17 2012 at 8:34 am #

I kind of go for the unusual, so many covers in any genre look the same. I like to see an actual work of art in the cover. A piece that I can imagine buying and hanging on my wall, because looking at it gives me pleasure.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 12:13 pm #

There are some covers out there I would definitely buy and hang on a wall 🙂 Thanks for dropping by the release!

  16. Yahong Feb 17 2012 at 8:52 am #

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I THINK I’M GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK RIGHT NOW. It’s so gorgeous! I adore those kinds of sans serif fonts, and the contrast with the slightly messier author name font is fabulous, and THE COLOURS. Wow. And the amazing profile made out of the image! Carries the whole hybrid feel fabulously. Eeeeh, Kat, I’m so happy for you. <3 😀

  17. Petra Feb 17 2012 at 8:58 am #

I love it! It’s gorgeous. The colours, the symbolism, even the typeface and how it was arranged. Congratulations!

  18. Leonicka Valcius Feb 17 2012 at 9:28 am #

The cover is gorgeous! Very simple but beautiful 🙂 I can’t imagine how excited you were to see it for the first time.

  19. April X Feb 17 2012 at 9:34 am #

I love it! 😀 It’s such a gorgeous cover and it sounds very relevant to the book! I’m also kind of obsessed with the cover model’s eye lol

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 2:49 pm #

It is a very pretty eye 😉 Thank you, April!

  20. Agnieszka Nashi Feb 17 2012 at 9:40 am #

I like it when there’s some concept behind the cover, that corresponds well with what the book is about. I can tell the cover of WHAT’S LEFT OF ME is easily one of these. 🙂

Other than that, I like covers that are simply pretty – pretty dresses, pretty sky, pretty anything. I’m shallow like that, ha ha. 😉

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 2:50 pm #

I’m all for a pretty cover as well, so if that’s shallow, we’ll just make a club 😉 Hehe

  21. Erin Bowman
    Erin Bowman Feb 17 2012 at 9:52 am #

SOOOO GORGEOUS, Kat! I love it. I think it matches the tone of the book so wonderfully. And I love those silver-metallic hues! The silhouette masking the girl. AHH! <333

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 2:50 pm #

I’m so glad you think it matches the book, Erin! <3 Thank you!

  22. -k the Lady Critic Feb 17 2012 at 10:01 am #

I love covers like this that make you just sit and stare at it for hours. It took me a few minutes to see the other face in this one! However, I’m also just a huge cover-whore for something pretty and shiny. Unique is also a great bonus.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 2:53 pm #

The first time I saw it, it took me a little while, too! 🙂

  23. Katie @ Blook Girl Feb 17 2012 at 10:08 am #

Ha! It took me a couple minutes of staring before I noticed the duality of the cover! It’s like a secret – but not 😉

What do I look for in a cover? WHAT’S LEFT OF ME is a great example! I love the font, the picture, the silhouette, and the use of space. One of my favorite covers from 2012 is BORN WICKED: eye-catching font, pops of color, a beautiful girl… I love it!

The premise of WHAT’S LEFT OF ME sounds really intriguing. I am adding it to my GR List now 🙂 Thanks for another great post!

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 17 2012 at 2:57 pm #

BORN WICKED is a gorgeous cover, isn’t it? 😀 I’m so glad you find WHAT’S LEFT OF ME intriguing!

  24. Sylvia Feb 17 2012 at 10:09 am #

Oh wow! That is one beautiful cover! I want to read the book already. Aaaahhhhh!

September isn’t thaaat far away 😉 And there will be ARCs! 😀

  25. Ellen Feb 17 2012 at 10:10 am #

So utterly gorgeous! Congratulations! (I’ll bet the book is even more wonderful though.) 🙂

  26. Katelyn Larson Feb 17 2012 at 10:14 am #

I love it, Kat! It’s sheer awesome 🙂 And if possible, it’s increased how much I want to read WHAT’S LEFT OF ME!

On the whole I like covers that relate to their story in some way. I tend to be drawn to books without a person on the cover, because I love being able to imagine characters for myself. If there is a person, it better be for a good reason, and I definitely get think WHAT’S LEFT OF ME fit that criteria. It seems like a great way of demonstrating that Eva and Addie are hybrids. 🙂

Congrats, Kat! Your cover is gorgeous!

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 12:41 pm #

Thank you so much, Katelyn! I know what you mean about liking to imagine characters for yourself 🙂

  27. Asia M Feb 17 2012 at 10:33 am #

    I love it! 😀

On covers with pictures, the originality and quality of the picture usually gives the cover its edge… But I also like covers made up purely of writing that play with fonts. They’re usually quite cool.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 12:42 pm #

Ooh, I like those, too! 🙂 And yay! I’m glad you love it!!

  28. Hayley G Feb 17 2012 at 10:34 am #

I like my covers to have a lot of colour and texture. I’m usually a sucker for a cover with a girl in a beautiful dress! 🙂

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 12:43 pm #

😀 Yes, texture! I hadn’t really thought of that, but I do love books with that matte feel.

  29. Becki Feb 17 2012 at 10:35 am #

The cover looks amazing. I had a quick peek at the blurb, and now I can’t wait to read it 🙂

  30. Emy Shin Feb 17 2012 at 10:39 am #

That’s such a gorgeous and unique cover! I love the juxtaposition of the actual face and the shadow-y one — and that color palette! So much love.

There isn’t a single thing I look for in a book cover. But I do love covers with soft color palettes. 🙂

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 12:47 pm #

I love the two faces, too! And yes, I share a fondness for soft color palettes 🙂

  31. Cialina Feb 17 2012 at 10:39 am #

I agree whole-heartedly! That cover is gorgeous.

  32. Bonnie @ A Backwards Feb 17 2012 at 10:44 am #

Kat, it’s great!!! I like the way there’s a jigsaw piece of a person. The gradient intrigues me as well. Ahh, I have to post this on my blog…but not atm. Work, work, work!

    • Bonnie @ A Backwards Feb 17 2012 at 10:44 am #

Oh! And EVERNEATH is one of my 2012 favorite covers atm, too!

And INCARNATE is one of my 2012–no, one of my all-time–favorite fantasy novels!!

      • Kat Zhang
        Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 12:48 pm #

Wow it’s gorgeous! I’m glad it’s different from the usual girl in a dress cover. Props to the designer.

  35. Vasiliki Feb 17 2012 at 10:54 am #

I’ve noticed that i like seeing faces on book covers, or something symbolic, something that you realize is relevant to the story after you have read the book, that’s always a pleasant surprise.
btw, i love the cover of What’s Left Of Me and can’t wait to read it 🙂

    • Kat Zhang

  36. Lori M Lee Feb 17 2012 at 10:58 am #

I’m not a big fan of BIG FACE covers. Of course, Incarnate and What’s Left of Me are exceptions b/c they are genuinely lovely 🙂 I like covers with a sense of setting or atmosphere, covers that truly and accurately portray the content of the book.

  37. JaniJon Feb 17 2012 at 11:04 am #

The cover is gorgeous! Congrats, Kat!!!

A good book cover to me needs to look high quality and I like bright colors. I don’t always like people on them just because I like to imagine the characters myself. I also like good typography and graphic design type covers. Your cover looks great. Congrats!

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 12:58 pm #

  42. Andrea Feb 17 2012 at 11:39 am #

I have to admit I am definitely swayed to a book by the cover. If it sticks out at me (like this one and INCARNATE) I have to get it just because it’s gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this cover!!!

  46. Lea Kaplan Feb 17 2012 at 11:47 am #

Looks amazing, Kat! And, like so many others have said, I love the duality of the faces on the cover – the one looking straight on and the profile. Super cool and just a little bit creepy, in the best way possible! It definitely fits with the summary of the story. I’m so excited to read it!! Congrats!

  53. Lexie B. Feb 17 2012 at 12:44 pm #

The cover is absolutely stunning. O_O I’ve seriously been staring at it on and off for the past few hours. It’s just. Wow.

Personally, there’s not one specific thing I like in covers. I like anything that a) Fits the book and b) Captures my attention. Whether it’s one of the common themes, like “girl in a dress,” or something completely different, as long as it’s visually appealing, I don’t really care. Although! One thing I do really like is raised text. I think it just adds a bit more awesomeness to the cover in general.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 18 2012 at 6:14 pm #

Thank you so much, Lexie! And yeah, I’m not picky about covers as long as they’re gorgeous 🙂

  57. Ghenet Myrthil Feb 17 2012 at 1:35 pm #

Your cover is gorgeous! And the premise is so intriguing. Congrats!

I like a variety of things in covers–interesting fonts, iconic images, pretty colors. Like Jayme above, it should relate to the story, which sadly doesn’t always happen.

  58. Tracy Bilen Feb 17 2012 at 1:45 pm #

I think a perfectly desighned Book Cover will instantly seperate that Authors books from the rest of the books in the store. It should be a cover that should make a long time fan and a noob pause and pay attention. Robbin Hobb’s books change in each country, but In Ireland (and probably the UK) I can instantly seperate her books just by glancing through the sidecovers. And that’s not even the actual cover, that’s just the spine:O

I really am a fan of so many different things in a cover, but most of all, I love when it is just a gorgeous photo that is balanced right. I don’t like when they have the pictures of girls and they cut off their faces so you can only see their mouth and similar things like that.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 20 2012 at 12:19 pm #

I think good balance is important on a cover, too 🙂

  67. Adriana Marachlian Feb 17 2012 at 4:02 pm #

Honestly, if I didn’t know what the book is about, I would still buy it just because of the cover 😀 LOOOOOVE IT <3

  68. Gabrielle Feb 17 2012 at 4:02 pm #

LOVE the cover. It’s looks perfect. (And great giveaway as well!)

  69. Erika Feb 17 2012 at 4:03 pm #

I love how if you really look here is TWO faces, not just one!

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 20 2012 at 12:20 pm #

I know! That’s one of my favorite parts! 😀

  70. Gabrielle Feb 17 2012 at 4:04 pm #

Oh, and what do I like in a book cover? Well, it just has to reflect the overall essence of the story. After I read a book, I like to stare at the cover and look for symbolism or something that didn’t catch my attention before because I hadn’t read it yet.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 20 2012 at 12:21 pm #

*nod* those are the most awesome 🙂

  71. Miriam Feb 17 2012 at 4:06 pm #

That is indeed an awesome book cover!
I actually like book covers that are simple. Not too many different colours (at least not if it’s not a happy, colourful story) and only one picture – or no picture at all, like John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. That’s a timeless cover to me. Most of the time, I also prefer drawings to photos, but I think that’s because photos always reflect some kind of trend or what is seen as modern and progressive. I haven’t seen that as much as with drawings actually.

Thank you so much for this awesome giveaway!

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 20 2012 at 12:22 pm #

I loove covers that have drawings instead of photos. Though nowadays only MG books tend to be illustrated like that. But hey, photos often turn out gorgeous, too, so I’m not complaining 🙂

  72. Krystel Feb 17 2012 at 4:07 pm #

I LOVE the cover! Like pieces to a puzzle, two faces in one. I think it really ties into your title as well. And I LOVE the silver!

  73. ephrielle Feb 17 2012 at 4:12 pm #

It needs to catch my eye. Hard to say exactly what will accomplish that. I have been trapped by many different types. But even more than that I love the feel of the cover. Some books have that velvety touch that is just divine.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 20 2012 at 12:23 pm #

Ooh, I know what you’re talking about. I love those, too 🙂

  74. MAMOTTS Feb 17 2012 at 4:14 pm #

    look for the unusual, artistic

  75. Reut Feb 17 2012 at 4:18 pm #

One of the things I really pay attention to in a cover is the fonts used.. I’ve been known to ogle gorgeous typography for a long time. For example, the title font on the paperback of REVOLUTION by Jennifer Donelley is gorgeous.

    • Kat Zhang
      Kat Zhang Feb 20 2012 at 12:24 pm #

I love this cover. I look for a cover that’s interesting and beautiful. I love to look at beautiful covers.

  77. Alysha Feb 17 2012 at 4:48 pm #

The cover looks really amazing 🙂 It’s simply gorgeous.

  78. kelsey d Feb 17 2012 at 4:55 pm #

I dont look for any one thing in particular, it just has to be different and bold enough to grab my attention. I do like to see a good creepy cover every now and then tho 🙂

  79. sarabara081 Feb 17 2012 at 5:14 pm #

Such a beautiful cover! I don’t think there is any in particular I look for in covers, just something to draw me in and make me curious. 🙂

  80. Kriston Johnson Feb 17 2012 at 5:41 pm #

That is one of the coolest covers I have seen in a long time. I am adding this book to my TBR list right now!

  81. Vivien Feb 17 2012 at 5:46 pm #

GORGEOUS!!! I look for color in book covers. If it’s colorful then I’ll probably do a double take. I’m a huge fan of every little piece of the cover being taken into consideration. Example: Wither by Lauren Destefano. I love all the extra fonts and the way it wraps around the book. Another ex: Across the Universe by Beth Revis. Penguin went all out with the book itself being embossed. To changing the penguin logo to make it ATU style. Love it. Also, I adore when a picture is on the HB underneath the dust jacket!!

  82. Steph Feb 17 2012 at 6:00 pm #

Such an attractive cover! I love the use of typography a lot. Congrats — I’m really looking forward to reading this later in the year!

  83. Priscilla Shay Feb 17 2012 at 6:17 pm #

  85. Jessica Feb 17 2012 at 6:29 pm #

I love when covers are black and white and then have a color that pops, like Everneath and the red dress.

  86. Leoni Feb 17 2012 at 6:38 pm #

That cover is very eye-catching, I would definitely pick it up. I love covers that are fairly simple and my fave out of the pics is the cover of The Miseducation of Cameron Post. I really like the colours 🙂

  87. Candice Feb 17 2012 at 7:35 pm #

The best thing about this cover is the type. It is very clean and kind of stark. It definitely conveys the books tone. The shading from red to blue is also really eye-catching.

  88. mena Feb 17 2012 at 8:00 pm #

The cover is goregous….. The cover is very real and elegant and i couldnt take my eyes off of it i love covers like that

  89. Jenelle R. Feb 17 2012 at 8:17 pm #

Anything eye catching does the trick! And your definitely is! It’s beautiful, and I can’t wait to read it!

  90. Jasmine Stairs Feb 17 2012 at 9:18 pm #

That is a lovely, atmospheric cover, Kat!

And as for what I love in a cover? I love iconic ones, or covers with typography, or illustrated ones, (anything by Jason Chan), I don’t even know! I goes I’m looking for some strange combination of clean lines and positive connections with things I’ve read before.

  91. Julie Feb 17 2012 at 11:05 pm #

Oh gosh, that’s just a lovely cover. The model has such intense eyes and I love how it’s in the shape of a person’s profile, tilted upward! Amazing! I can’t wait for the book to be out in stores! Plus, the colors. The melting of red to blue! Ahh!

  92. Brandi Ziegler Feb 18 2012 at 12:39 am #

Omg, KAT!! Your cover made me gasp! Stunning!!! So excited for you 😀 glad you finally getto share it’s awesomeness!

I’m so excited for you Kat! Much <3 from back home.

  94. Bianca Feb 18 2012 at 9:24 am #

It’s uniqueness & style of how it illustrates the title of the book also the contrast of colors. I super love it! <3

  95. Angie Feb 18 2012 at 3:06 pm #

I like a book cover if it’s obvious that the graphic designers clearly portray a book in its cover and it’s pretty. Not to mention, a unique cover is always one to look out for.

  96. Jess Feb 18 2012 at 3:55 pm #

I love mystery in a cover. One that intrigues you enough to check what it’s about.

  97. ferretvamp14 Feb 18 2012 at 4:05 pm #

I like a book cover that has a little pop to it. Whether it be the eyes or a beautiful dress that stand out against a darker background. The eyes really pop on your cover Kat. It’s awesome!

  98. Allison Feb 18 2012 at 8:38 pm #

This is a really cool book cover, and sounds like an interesting book!

  99. Mariel Louise Cunana Feb 18 2012 at 11:03 pm #

What I love about book covers are simplicity! And I find the cover of What’s Left of Me refreshing and cool. Sounds like a book I have to watch out for! Congrats on your book! 🙂

  100. Zara Alexis Feb 19 2012 at 12:39 am #

I love colour in book cover designs. And as much as I hate to say it, I’ve noticed that I’m drawn to book covers with flowers. It sounds silly, but I gravitate towards books that are “pretty.” You should see how I decide which edition to buy! It all comes down to the cover. I can also tell you what I don’t like: pictures of the movie for books as book covers. I draw the line there.

    Thanks!

  102. Hannah F-S Feb 19 2012 at 11:56 am #

I like a pretty book cover. Unfortunately I am one to judge a book by its cover, and I like a cover that draws me in.

  103. Kulsuma Feb 19 2012 at 3:05 pm #

I love this cover because of the emotion in the girl’s eye. I also love the colours and the composition of the cover.

  104. Jessica @ Book Sake Feb 19 2012 at 7:37 pm #

I like when the cover represents some major aspect of the story. It’s the initial thing that I see when browsing, so it has to draw me in.
    – Jessica @ Book Sake

  105. Shirley Feb 19 2012 at 8:43 pm #

My favorite thing is that the girl is half covered which I think goes great with, well, the summary of the book. It makes me so excited to read it!

  106. Jeff Brant Feb 19 2012 at 9:49 pm #

Beautiful cover! Can’t wait to see and read the book after it is released! Congratulations!

  107. Gabi Feb 19 2012 at 11:02 pm #

I like book covers that that are eye catching and unique, and that give me a feel for what the story might be like. I love the cover of Imaginary Girls, and the Goose Girl, and Cinder, and The Replacement, amoung others, because their covers fit the stories so well.

  108. Vanessa Di Gregorio
Vanessa Di Gregorio Feb 19 2012 at 11:40 pm #

I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again – that cover is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! Gorgeous! The colours, the two faces, the typography – love love LOVE! Congrats again, Kat! <3

  109. Rebecca Feb 20 2012 at 8:16 am #

I like book covers that are captivating and unique; one’s that no matter what the genre will attract my interest to the book. Beautiful, interesting, bold and bright use of colours! I also like it when the cover actually relates to the story!

  110. Amberdk Feb 20 2012 at 10:13 am #

I love when the cover has something to do with the plot. I love all these pretty covers with pretty girls in pretty dresses, but most of the time, I finish reading the book and look at the cover thinking, “why the pretty girl in pretty dress?”

  111. Priya Feb 20 2012 at 10:23 am #

    OMG instant cover love!
I love the colors and the way the face is shown!

  112. Jaskirat@SeeitORread Feb 20 2012 at 12:19 pm #

The cover is so unique! Congrats!!! I just love it!!! These days all covers have like these girls in dresses or dead things on the cover so gosh this one looks so amazing!!!! Absolutely mysterious and compelling!!! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  113. Kayla B. Feb 20 2012 at 5:56 pm #

I always look for something that looks well put-together. Instead of a random assortment of prettiness, I want to see something that is connected to the book. The cover is the first impression we get, and it should be directly representative of what we will find inside.

  114. Rivah Feb 20 2012 at 6:03 pm #

This story looks awesome and original. Can’t wait to read it!!

  115. Romi I. E. Foster. Feb 20 2012 at 6:47 pm #

Oh wow! I adore this cover! I didn’t see it on your site when it was first announced, but found it on Goodreads last night and wow- it is amazing! Congratulations! I’m dying to read this even more now!

In a book cover I look for part of the story, once you’ve finished the tale you think, oh yeah, that is perfect for the story! When your midway through, you connect with it, and before you’ve even started you can’t wait a second longer, because it’s so intriguing!

  116. Angelica Feb 20 2012 at 9:06 pm #

That cover is gorgeous! And the story sounds fantastic as well.

  117. Orchid Feb 20 2012 at 10:17 pm #

For me, I like covers that fit the story within the book…like What’s Left of Me. I love the subtle coloring on it and the little tint of color that was added to the girl on the over (very nice). =)

A little off topic, but the one thing I do not like on my covers (especially YA) are the ones with half-naked people, most especially when that kind of thing isn’t even in the book. *shudders*

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  118. Leslie Le Feb 21 2012 at 2:00 am #

omg… this cover looks amazing! I can’t wait to read it Kat! 😀 CONGRATS!!!!

  119. Sheena-ka Graham Feb 21 2012 at 2:37 am #

Awesome cover, you have a right to be so happy. I love your novel’s concept, can’t wait for it’s release in September.

  120. Cathee Feb 21 2012 at 7:15 am #

I so love your cover; the colors are awesome! And I think it represents really well the summary!

  121. Jennifer Feb 21 2012 at 7:49 am #

Hey kat! I work with your mom! All of us are so excited to read your book! The cover is gorgeous!! Congrats!

  122. Judit_K Feb 21 2012 at 9:06 am #

I like it when a book cover catches my eyes with it’s illustrations, but not because of the vivid colors, but the creativity!

  123. Sarah S Feb 21 2012 at 1:23 pm #

Your book cover is gorgeous! And I love how it relates to the book’s premise. I’m nor sure I can pinpoint all the things I look for in a cover, but off the top of my head, I’m drawn to gorgeous fonts, swirly lines, colors, silhouettes, and outlines.

  124. Susan Feb 21 2012 at 9:27 pm #

That cover is absolutely gorgeous! Somehow I’d managed to not know what your book was about until now (I feel so ashamed!) but it’s sounds AMAZING and now I cannot wait until it comes out and I can rush to buy one!

  125. Tezza Feb 22 2012 at 1:42 am #

What I like about book covers is hard to say really… there’s a lot of factors that I take into account that will grab my attention and make me go “o0o0o I GOT TO HAVE IT! Gimme Gimme Gimme!!” lol … I would say: The art itself, I love anything out of the norm but I appreciate simplicity, shininess is still attracting =), the feel of the book (matte/smoothhness/or 3D feel), hmm the excerpt/synopsis on the back cover instead of a bunch of praises of the story because I care more what the book is about instead of what others think (that’s second priority), and that the cover itself isn’t too over done. ^_^ I made it sound like science huh? lol oops… but with “What’s Left of Me” cover – I LOVE IT! It has that ‘HEY YOU! LOOK AT ME!’ feel to it, and it’s simple, elegant, but has that I’m hiding something but you won’t know until you read me mystery hahaha okay, I’m blabbering. Thank you for hosting this giveaway and THANK YOU for putting up with my long comment =)
    Have a great week!

  126. Kalina Feb 22 2012 at 5:41 am #

I like the covers with the characters or some scenes of the story!

  127. Charlotte Feb 22 2012 at 7:46 am #

Wow, I know this is the obvious comment- but I really love the cover!

  128. Tiffany M. Feb 22 2012 at 9:36 am #

What do I like in a book cover… I LOVE contrast!!! When it has vibrant colours that pop I can’t help but pick it up! Red is the colour I tend to notice the most. I am also one of those suckers for pretty dresses too.

  129. Maria Feb 22 2012 at 9:37 am #

It has to be eye-catching in some way. And I really like when the cover shows something that’s important within the book.

  130. Andrea Feb 22 2012 at 4:44 pm #

O.O That is gorgeous. Everything I love in a cover is on yours. It’s addictive (can a cover be addictive? because yours definitely is) I just keep staring at it. It says so much, the emotion in it speaks to me. Have you sent it to cover lust?!

  131. Fedor Zsófia Feb 23 2012 at 6:21 am #

I like it when it’s colorful and unique! 🙂

  132. Zoe Feb 23 2012 at 12:55 pm #

Beautiful, beautiful cover. It has a certain unique-ness that I love seeing in covers, as well as a dramatic artistic appeal. Also- and I’m not sure why- but I don’t particularly care for covers that show all of a character’s face. I’d like part of it to to be left to my imagination 😉

  133. Amber Feb 23 2012 at 5:25 pm #

The more blog posts I see about “What’s Left Of Me”, the more amped I get about its release. I use to like the artsy, abstract book covers, but I like that this one is more about the photography and the model. It really helps to have an idea of what the character looks like in your mind as you’re reading the story.

It would have been cool if the other side was the left half of the other “soul’s” face instead of just being greyed out.
But, whatever, it’s awesome. Congrats Ms. Zhang! 🙂

  134. Alz Feb 23 2012 at 10:50 pm #

I love a cover that’s dynamically designed and features striking artwork and/or photography. If a cover looks generic or ugly, I am uninterested or even driven away. I know, I know, don’t judge a book by its cover…

  135. Lothfleur Feb 24 2012 at 7:45 am #

I like when book covers first, reflect the story (hard to see at first glance, I know!), and then, when they are appealing, nice colors, or images, something that draws attention, without being overly gaudy.
What’s left of me’s cover is beautiful, it’s clear, without being overly so, what with the font of the author’s name and the face lines cutting accross the girl’s face… (and her lashes, they’re beautiful !).

  136. Soumi Roy Feb 24 2012 at 11:30 am #

A book cover should be very gorgeous and colorful, Also a book cover should be something that can represent the theme of the story, like a painting and the hidden story behind it. A cover should be something to catch your eyes before you could ever read the synopsis. The cover should lead you solve the mystery behind the pages and you will feel drawn more and more to the book. With a artistic touch a cover can have the power to make everyone spellbound and fall in love at first sight with the book.

  137. Thilde Feb 24 2012 at 11:32 am #

I like when it is simple yet beautiful and I’m not a big fan if it’s “overdone” with either a too busy fronpage or a too big script

  138. Carrie A Feb 24 2012 at 2:28 pm #

Eye catching colors, a beautiful face, or awesome outfits

  139. Rachel Feb 24 2012 at 4:43 pm #

I don’t know really what makes a good cover, but a good cover has to catch my attention and have something to do with the book’s story. And having a beautiful cover really does help when choosing to buy a book !

  140. Grace Radford Feb 24 2012 at 7:41 pm #

I love when one part is shiny and the rest is matte. Also, I just love when it’s important to the story. If it’s just a pretty cover for the sake of being a pretty cover it loses something to me…

  141. Atheena Anthony Feb 24 2012 at 8:46 pm #

I like it when the picture would sort of inspire your imagination how a character or setting would look like! And I go crazy over their puffy pretty dresses! And sometimes they just pull me to it.. Just like how I love the cover of Everneath! It is simply beautiful:)

  142. Michelle Feb 24 2012 at 9:37 pm #

I like covers that tell a story and are relevant with the book. Vibrant use of colours. Simple and stunning.
