Woohoo! We’re kicking off this second week of Pub(lishing) Crawl post-apocalyptic insanity with an interview from the amazing Wendy Higgins. If you haven’t read Sweet Evil, then you guys are really missing out. Seriously, there’s a reason this book has been making waves all over the blogosphere (and beyond!), and that reason is that it’s awesome.
Also, it’s got some seriously hot romance with a seriously amazing female lead (and comparably amazing male lead to match her—oh Kaidan, be still my heart!). Truly, guys, I cannot recommend this book enough!
Sweet Evil
What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?
This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness within. It isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.
Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
One thing I really loved about Sweet Evil was the quality of the writing. You can really tell Wendy Higgins has a Creative Writing degree (from George Mason University!).
Oh, and stay tuned for Sweet Evil‘s sequel, Sweet Peril, which will be out at the end of April!
Now on to the interview!
1) So Wendy, are you a plotter or pantser?
I’ve tried and tried to be a Plotter, but when I try to outline I just stare at the screen and scratch my head like a monkey. I’ve resigned to the fact that I’m a Panster and cannot do it any other way. I suppose I outline in my head as I go, lol. It’s definitely not the way I’d choose to do things, if one had a choice in these matters.
2) I am SO the same. Even when I try to outline, I can never stick to it. I just figure it out as I go! So, when you write a scene, though, is there any special method you have for getting words on the page?
Usually a scene comes to me and I play it out as much as possible in my head, squeezing out details. Then as soon as I can, I sit down and type it all out. Sometimes “I’ll have a scene brewing in my mind for days or weeks before it feels complete enough to write. Foggy details usually work themselves out when I start typing. It’s crazy how it happens.
3) It’s like magic, right? How it all just comes together? I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s wild. 😉 Do you have any authors or books that really influence (or have influenced) you as a writer?
I’m a sucker for romance, and I enjoy mostly commercial fiction with strong characterizations and relationships. For those reasons I really love everything by Karen Marie Moning (adult romance), Richelle Mead (adult and YA), and Jennifer Armentrout (her YA).
4) Nice! I’m a pretty big commercial romance fan, myself (as are many of the ladies on Pub(lishing) Crawl!). So, along with romance, what do you like in your favorite literary cocktail?
Equal parts sweet romance, tangy characters, and fizzy setting — shake until dizzy. Add a plot-twist of lemon for zest and a cherry of sexual tension. Yum. 🙂
5) Oooh, I love the “shake until dizzy” addition! Gotta have that in a book! But…oh-oh! Pub Brawl!! What’s your weapon of choice?
I was sold on the icicle as the ultimate weapon after reading The Lovely Bones. And this is the perfect time of year for it…
Hahaha! Nice choice! Remind me not to cross you in a bar. 😉 And also, thank you SO much for stopping by, Wendy!!
To celebrate having Wendy on the blog, we’re giving away a copy of Sweet Evil! All you have to do is fill out the Rafflecopter form and leave a comment letting us know if you’ve read Sweet Evil OR if you’d rather wear a halo or horns (figuratively, of course).
WENDY HIGGINS has a Creative Writing degree from George Mason University. She also has a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford, and once upon a time, she taught high school English—but that was before she became a mommy. She now lives in the D.C. area with her husband, daughter, son, and puppy Rue.
I haven’t read it yet but the concept is very intriguing. 🙂 I think I’d like both. Halo and horns. 🙂
Like the main character, Anna! 😉
Haven’t read it yet, and I’d like my horns to hold up my halo 😉
I really want to read Sweet Evil, reviews are really good on this author;)
I’ve read and loved Sweet Evil!
Can I just say that Kai is HOTT with a double t? =)))
Loved the interview! <3 Wendy's so fun to talk to. (of course there's the awesome interviewer as well) 😉
I haven’t read it yet so I want to win it–heard so much about it!
Of course, I’d choose a halo anytime. 🙂
I haven’t read it yet ’cause it’s not available on a local bookstore near me. But ofcourse, I am planning to read it. The summary sounds good!
Been meaning to read this for ages! I love the concept and I’ve heard great things 🙂
Omgosh I loved the cocktail: “Equal parts sweet romance, tangy characters, and fizzy setting — shake until dizzy. Add a plot-twist of lemon for zest and a cherry of sexual tension.”!
I’d love to say I’d wear a halo but I sort of want to wear horns sometimes too (a girl wants to be bad ya know?) I guess I’ll stick with the halo for now.
I absolutely loved Sweet Evil, and I can’t wait for Sweet Peril! I’d pick horns, definitely 😀
I so do want to read this but haven’t yet. I think definitely a little of both, though if I have to pick one I’d go with horns! Three cheers for pansters!
Yes I have read Sweet Evil and it was amazing… I’m dying to read Sweet Peril I know it from now that it will be worth 5/5 stars… 🙂 I would rather wear a halo because every girl is good until she meet a bad guy, that’s when she becomes bad… 😉
Please, I’d totally go for the horns. 😛
I haven’t read Sweet Evil yet, though now I’m dying to!!!
I haven’t read Sweet Evil yet, though I really want to. If I had to pick, I’d vote for horns. Not only are they more stylish than a halo, I’d get to have more fun wearing them.
I’ll pick horns so I won’t feel guilty every time I do something bad LOL.
I’m probably too much a good girl but Halo all the way! Although a couple days a month I’d have to go incognito with some horns and wreak a little havoc 🙂
Haven’t read Sweet Evil yet but I am now quite intrigued!
Haven’t read it yet, and after reading this interview I want to read it even more! Thank you and also thank you for the chance to win a copy 🙂
With a name like I’d Angelica, you’d think I’d already have a halo installed. But everyone who knows me knows that there are a definite pair of horns under that halo.
I have not read Sweet Evil, will pick it up the next time I’m at Indigo 😀 Thanks for the interview!! I’m an outliner….have tried pantsing….but got stuck midway and it freaked me out – that I’d never be able to finish a story. During NaNo 2012 I outlined my novel and thus realized I am indeed an outliner hehe.
Loie xo
Thanks for the interview!
I am looking forward to reading Sweet Evil
I haven’t read SWEET EVIL, but it certainly sounds awesome. I love the concept. And I guess I’d rather horns… I imagine they’d be a bit more interesting.
I have read Sweet Evil! It’s one of my favorite books ever! It is such a good read! It’s a tough choice, but I think I’d rather wear a halo…
Definitely prefer the horns!!! 🙂
I’m definitely planning to read Sweet Evil. It’s hard choice: Halo or Horns. Today, I feel like Horns 😉
Horns:)
Not yet, I’ve wanted to for a long while! It looks incredibly good not only is the cover gorgeous but the synopsis hooked me 🙂
I haven’t, but I’ really want to!
No, I haven’y had the chance to read it yet, but I ‘d love to! As for horns or halo…mmm…I’m most likely wearing a HORNALO…right now!
Haven’t read it yet. Interesting premise! I’m thinking halo. For some reason, in my mind, halo is associated with magic super powers. Like, you get a halo and you can also fly, etc. Rewards for being good I guess? Haha, I don’t know why this comes to mind, exactly.
I haven’t read it but it sounds wonderful! I think I’d go with halo. Prove that not only bad girls can have fun. 🙂
I really liked Sweet Evil, especially that sexual tension 😉 Like starcrossed and dreamless by Josephine Angelini, there was the whole “I really like you, but we shouldn’t be together” and it’s just SO frustrating but I love it anyways.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Love love love Wendy Higgins *_*!!!!! this give away is perfect! i want it sooo badly! love wendy higgins books! :’)))
I’m pretty excited to check this book out, which is hopefully going to be happening soon! And as for if I’d have a halo or wear horns… Hmm. I’d probably have a halo, but the horns would break out every now and again even when I try to hide them 😉
I loved Sweet Evil so much!!! I would rather wear horns than a halo; then, people don’t expect much from you. 😉
I have not read Sweet Evil yet, but am DYING TO!!! and definintely horns, my friends can attest to that. 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway! I haven’t read it yet, but I want to and I think I wear a halo! 🙂
I haven’t read Sweet Evil yet, but I so need to!! Also, I would totally have horns. That would have to be more fun : ) Thanks for the giveaway!
I’d prefer a halo, because haloes usually come with wings. 🙂
I haven’t. 🙁 Waaah. I have been dying to though. My friends keep recommending it to me! I’d like to have horns. 😉
Horns. Wouldn’t want to misguide people with a halo 😛
Not yet- but I’ve read oodles of awesome reviews 😀
I haven’t read it yet, but I REALLY REALLY WANT TO. As for halo vs. horns, much to my chagrin, I’ve been called the “good child” in my family -.- so I’m gonna say halo 😛 Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
LOVED Sweet Evil, and definitely have to go with both halo and horns since Anna is so amazing.
I haven’t read Sweet Evil but it sounds so good!!!
I haven’t read Sweet Evil yet :'(. As for the halo or horns question…. I seem like an angel, but inside I’m pretty sure I’m the opposite!
NO! I have not read it yet! I’m a terrible friend. Though I have given away several copies so maybe that counts for something?
HMMMM, halo.
Yes I’ve read Sweet Evil and I LOVED it!
Halo would be hard for me so maybe Horns-or maybe both?
Halo…
Halo for sure!
I’d rather have “halos” and fall in love with my very own Kaidan 😉
I LOVED Sweet Evil 🙂
