I don’t actually celebrate birthdays but if I did, I’d spend the day with the family watching Disney movies 🙂

    Happy happy birthday Susan!!!
I don’t really have any birthday traditions anymore, but when I was younger my family would always take me out to eat at my favorite restaurant. Nothing too exciting 🙂

For some reason, we always seem to end up in West Wales for my birthday, no matter how differently we plan it. Luckily, my MIL lives there, so we just throw clothes in the car, and up and leave, and I get waited on hand on foot (which isn’t any different to any other time there, but it being my birthday means I can demand more from my husband), and then it’s a couple of days of beach visits and coastal walks, and good eating. 😀
    Happy birthday, Susan.

  6. Yuanting Feb 25 2013 at 7:37 am #

My birthday tradition is to take an exam because my birthday always falls on an exam date… 😛

Now that’s not really romantic, so I guess my real birthday tradition is to go out for dinner with the family. 😀

    • Caitlin Vanasse Feb 25 2013 at 2:12 pm #

My birthday often falls on exams too! But hey, exams only last forever if you’re a student forever so you’ll make it out!

My family’s tradition is to leave up the “Happy Birthday [insert name here]” sign up until the next family birthday. I hget the biggest gap so my sign gets to be up the longest.

  7. Loie Feb 25 2013 at 7:38 am #

Hmmmmm bday traditions….AH yes! Million dollar pound cake 😉 My Nana’s special birthday cake recipe hehehe.

    Happy Bday Sooz!

Happy birthday Susan! No sprinting today, unless you want to 🙂

  9. Aly Phanord Feb 25 2013 at 7:57 am #

At 12 am the calls start rolling in and during the day I wear a tiara. Sometimes a sash too if I’m feeling particularly sassy 🙂

  10. Alwyn Feb 25 2013 at 7:58 am #

Happy Birthday! Can’t wait for the sequel! Have been forcing Book 1 on everyone pitching it as the Corsets and Zombie Book. So far much success has been had. I tend to go out for a nice dinner with my family on my Birthday, though harder since I don’t live at home anymore. The one year that got missed I had to spend my Birthday on a Saturday Working at an English Country House in the middle of nowhere with no phone connection. Zipped back into London and my phone was full of texts and my BFF made me food. That was a nice one in spite of the break in Tradition 🙂

  11. amie Feb 25 2013 at 8:25 am #

    Happy Birthday Susan!

I don’t think it is a tradition because I just started doing it a few years ago. I spend my birthday alone catching up on my TBR pile and eat my favorite desert all day long. =D

  12. Lynn K. Feb 25 2013 at 8:29 am #

It’s not really a tradition but we ALWAYS have cake. No matter how busy the fam members are or even we aren’t doing anything fancy that year. We gather around for cake. 😉

I got Joseph from the quiz. 😀

  13. Brittany S Feb 25 2013 at 8:35 am #

We always have cake. Even if we screw it up while making it or we have just a small cake. That may sound silly but, its always what we do 🙂 Thanks for the chance to win.

I am lame and stopped having birthday traditions as I got older. However as kids since my brother’s birthday is only 6 days before mine, we usually had combined parties. How mortifying as a teen! Now I think back and laugh at myself. It wasn’t that bad 🙂

  15. ellie M Feb 25 2013 at 8:37 am #

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! No real traditions, though since my b-day is in July, we usually have a BBQ… but we mostly have BBQ’s as much as possible in the summer so it’s not really about my birthday 😛 lol
    Oh lala~ I got Daniel~ <3

  16. Christina K. Feb 25 2013 at 8:49 am #

Happy Birthday!! Hope you have an awesome day!:)

My friends and I always meet for lunch and have cupcakes with candles in them:)

  17. eli yanti Feb 25 2013 at 9:22 am #

usually going to dinner with co-worked friend 🙂

  18. L.B.Shire Feb 25 2013 at 9:35 am #

My family always makes a special dinner for me and my husband. Our birthdays are days apart!

  19. Shelley @ Gizmos Rev Feb 25 2013 at 9:39 am #

The only real tradition we have is that on April fool’s day, my uncle, or sister, call to wish me a happy birthday. Of course, my real birthday is on the 2nd! It’s been going on forever!

  20. Danielle Nguyen Feb 25 2013 at 9:52 am #

I always go out to dinner with each of my parents for my birthday. They let me pick the restaurants, so that’s always fun. Other than that I don’t really have any birthday traditions. Maybe I should start some new ones!

    Happy birthday to you!

  21. Meredith Anderson Feb 25 2013 at 10:22 am #

I LOVE THIS BIRTHDAY TRADITION! Happy Birthday, Sooz! I hope you have a crown for the day because Queen’s need crowns! If not we’ll just have to get you one. 😉 I don’t think I have any traditions for my birthday which is strange because I have traditions for everything else! I should start something. Any suggestions?

Hope you have a FANTASTIC day! <3

  22. Sarah Feb 25 2013 at 10:23 am #

Well, nothing good. I make my own cake and usually something happens so that my day turns kind of crappy. My birthday is next month and I’m not really looking forward to it. I don’t mind being older, just mind getting through whatever yuckiness of the day.

  23. Hannah Feb 25 2013 at 10:28 am #

Happy Birthday, Susan!! So excited to read ADSL! For my birthday I always try to be super low-key, just hang out at home with someone awesome and watch a movie. And, of course–cake!

  24. Christa Feb 25 2013 at 10:30 am #

Carrot cake! Lots and lots of carrot cake!

  25. Leigh Smith Feb 25 2013 at 10:41 am #

First of all, happy birthday, Susan! I went to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for my 30th, and I wish I could make that a traditions, but it’s kinda 1500 miles away. For me it’s all about food. All I want is to go to a yummy restaurant. And books. Lots of books.

  26. Steph Feb 25 2013 at 10:43 am #

I hope to someday be able to give away my own ARCs on my bday. Until then…no traditions. Wait, no I have one. I never work my 9-5 job on my bday. No matter what. I always always always take my bday off. 🙂

Here, what I usually send to my friends on their bdays:

    May your troubles be less,
    May your blessings be more,
    May nothing but happiness
    Walk through your door.

Happy bday! Hope it’s fantastic. <3

  27. Tammy Sparks Feb 25 2013 at 11:04 am #

Happy Birthday! You are awesome:) In my family, the birthday person always gets to pick a restaurant to have dinner at, so that is my tradition: trying to decide what I’d like for dinner! And of course, I NEVER have to cook on my birthday (I really hate to cook!) Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  28. Katy Feb 25 2013 at 11:07 am #

No major traditions on birthdays. But the past few years, I’ve been going to a movie with my family. I love birthdays, so my goal is to make them fun and exciting for my friends/family.

  29. Jill Feb 25 2013 at 11:08 am #

We always get cake of course, but I always request that instead of having “Happy Birthday Jill!” drawn on in frosting, that we have something completely ludicrous written on it to give the cake decorators a laugh. Last year it was: “Monkeys are cool!”

  30. Peggy Eddleman Feb 25 2013 at 11:33 am #

    *Gasp* I so want this!

At my house, the birthday person gets to choose where we all go out to eat. Then we do brownies and ice cream (since no one here likes cake) and presents. I have a group of 8 friends and we go all-out for birthdays, so after the family celebration is done, they come over and give the gift they’ve been planning for weeks. It’s always epic, and a blast!

  31. Avery Moore Feb 25 2013 at 11:37 am #

I don’t really have any birthday traditions, but I won’t ever forget my 18th birthday two years ago, which I spent in Paris. It was magical.

    And happy birthday Susan!

  32. elena Feb 25 2013 at 11:51 am #

I don’t really have any birthday traditions except CAKE.

  33. Angelica R. Jackson Feb 25 2013 at 11:51 am #

My birthday falls around Memorial Day, so for quite a few years we were going to a jazz festival–not because that’s what I wanted to do, but because that’s when the festival happened. Now I try to circumvent that by planning a trip (usually to the coast) for my birthday.

  34. Kayla Feb 25 2013 at 12:20 pm #

The only birthday tradition is that my family and I go out to dinner wherever I choose. I spend quite some time leading up to the day making my decision.

  35. Jessi Feb 25 2013 at 12:20 pm #

Our birthday traditions involve as many birthday parties as possible. You gotta stretch out the birthday love and try to get as many presents as possible! One of the benefits of having an extended family who have major scheduling differences. 🙂

  36. Paige Firth Feb 25 2013 at 12:23 pm #

My family has a tradition of playing 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” on birthdays. Go shawty, it’s ya birffday… haha.

  37. Stacey Feb 25 2013 at 12:32 pm #

The only tradition I have is that I get a birthday week where I get to solve disagreements by saying, “It’s my birthday, so I’m right!”

Thanks for the giveaway. Feel free to just end it now and pick me as the winner. 😉

  38. Nicole@ The More the Feb 25 2013 at 12:36 pm #

    Happy Birthday!!
I have 5 siblings so it’s always a race to see who will be the first one to wish the birthday person Happy Birthday. They don’t win anything except bragging rights, since they remembered the person’s birthday first.
When I was younger we got to skip doing chores for the day.
    Thanks for the birthday giveaway!

  39. Dani@Refracted Light Feb 25 2013 at 12:37 pm #

My anniversary falls 4 days after my birthday, so my husband stretches the whole thing into a week-long celebration and I get a present a day. He’s pretty awesome. 🙂

  40. Alexa Feb 25 2013 at 12:38 pm #

My birthday is right before Christmas, so I always see one of the big Christmas movie releases. All of the Lord of the Rings movies, Titanic, etc. were released either on or one or two days before/after my birthday.

  41. magan bagan Feb 25 2013 at 12:38 pm #

Lately my mother has been taking me out for lunch on my birthday, but it’s generally a tradition for our whole family to get together for lunch.

It’s my favorite thing to do!

  42. Duks Feb 25 2013 at 12:40 pm #

It’s a very simple one, but we go to Denny’s every year for whoever’s birthday, yes the cake is free, but it’s actually good!

  46. HollyB Feb 25 2013 at 12:51 pm #

Happy happy birthday, Susan!!!! Hope you have a most wonderful “queen for a day” day! I don’t really have a tradition for my birthday…I used to try to take the day off from work when I could, but that’s about it (and I’m not working now, so that’s a moot point, hee hee). Honestly, once you have a kid, birthdays don’t matter so much anymore. Well – YOUR birthdays, that is…THEIR birthdays are, of course, occasions requiring TONS of pomp and circumstance! 🙂

  47. Natalie Cleary Feb 25 2013 at 12:52 pm #

I dont have a tradition on my Birthday 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway and Happy Birthday!!

  48. MackenziLee Feb 25 2013 at 12:54 pm #

I don’t really have any birthday traditions, but giving away books might be a good one to start!
This is seriously my most anticipated book of the year!!! AH! So excited to keep adventuring with Eleanor!

  49. Krispy Feb 25 2013 at 12:58 pm #

Happy birthday!!! I don’t really have any birthday traditions, unless you count eating large amounts of delicious, delicious food. 🙂 Also ice cream because it is my favorite!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  50. Pili Feb 25 2013 at 1:01 pm #

I don’t have many birthday traditions aside from exchanging days if need be to make sure I don’t work that day, so I can sleep in! As of late, it’s sort of becoming a tradition to bake a new recipe for cupcakes for my b-day too!

Thank you so much for giving out books as your birthday tradition!!

  51. wendy Feb 25 2013 at 1:02 pm #

Since my Bday is close to Christmas, my friends always take me out after the holidays for movie & lunch. On my actual bday my family always go to Mexican for dinner & I always ask for peppermint ice cream for dessert:)

  52. Natasha Feb 25 2013 at 1:08 pm #

This year (ten days ago!), I spent my first birthday away from home after moving to California. I’m used to cold winter days in North Dakota. We would gather all our friends together, and my husband would make me a themed cake. One year was Stargate ice cream cake, a chocolate Serenity spaceship from the show Firefly, and replicas of our kitties’ faces. Always something to look forward to, despite the snow!

This year, two of my best friends came to visit me. We went to Disneyland where I wore my birthday pin (two days early since I wanted to meet Shannon Hale). So, that might be a new tradition. We went to the beach and spent most of the day outside with no long sleeves. That could also be a new tradition. I had my milkshake before my meal. That could be the new tradition, too. I’m excited to find out!

    We shall see.

  53. Lucy Feb 25 2013 at 1:15 pm #

I don’t have a tradition. I eat cake, a lot of it, if that counts! 🙂 lol Happy Birthday, Susan! 😀

  54. Ariel Feb 25 2013 at 1:21 pm #

My sister’s birthday is May 10th, and mine is May 13th, and Mothers Day almost always falls somewhere close to those days (if not on them) so we have a tradition of getting together and celebrating all 3 at once. We always go out to lunch and from there we do something else, go to a movie, go to the beach, ect.

    Happy birthday Susan!

  55. Hannah Feb 25 2013 at 1:25 pm #

My most persistent birthday tradition has been having the Seafood Delight platter at my favorite hole-in-the-wall seafood restaurant with my family, with a finish of on-the-house cheesecake. Healthy eating dictates we only eat there once a year, so why not make it on my birthday, to make it extra awesome?

  56. Amanda Feb 25 2013 at 1:25 pm #

Mine is really simple, my mom buys me cheesecake! Happy Birthday!!

  57. Krystal M. Feb 25 2013 at 1:33 pm #

I usually go get a steak dinner with my Uncle every year or stay up the entire night preceding my birthday cleaning the kitchen. Weird, I know. XD

  58. Dreams Feb 25 2013 at 1:37 pm #

Sadly I do not have any traditions aside from getting cake or cupcakes.

  59. Chandra Feb 25 2013 at 1:39 pm #

My whole family gets together, and we play games and have cake and ice cream. Just a good old family day!

  61. Danielle D Feb 25 2013 at 1:58 pm #

I go out to dinner every year for my b-day, other than that not much in the way of tradition

  62. Gaby Feb 25 2013 at 1:58 pm #

Mmm not really, but I’ve been giving myself a gift for the last couple of years, so it’s starting to turn into a tradition lol!

  63. Emma Feb 25 2013 at 2:02 pm #

    Nope, not really. 🙂

  64. Heather K. Feb 25 2013 at 2:07 pm #

Happy Birthday! I don’t have any traditions but always get a card from my Mom! Just being remembered makes me happy! Thank you for having the giveaway.:)

  65. Jordan Erika Smith Feb 25 2013 at 2:08 pm #

Hmm, dinner is pretty much our only tradition. For anyone’s birthday in our family. They get restaurant choice for the night. Not a big deal, I guess, but it’s our thing. Oh, and my dad misspelling my name. *facepalm* Gotta love him anyway.

  66. Beth D. Feb 25 2013 at 2:15 pm #

My latest Birthday tradition is probably helping prep the party for my niece, who was born the day (and several years, of course) after me. I have fun, though! She’s still young, so the parties have cute themes. And I like making the cupcakes!

  67. ephrielle Feb 25 2013 at 2:16 pm #

I used to always eat ice cream cake. But then I got old. Now I just try to make sure I get something for myself. Usually a book.

  68. Kim Feb 25 2013 at 2:17 pm #

I can’t wait to read this!

  69. stephanie garber Feb 25 2013 at 2:17 pm #

Happy birthday! I love the cover of A Darkness Strange and Lovely!

I don’t really have any birthday traditions, but I do always buy a new dress to wear, which I guess sort of counts as a tradition.

  70. Kim Feb 25 2013 at 2:19 pm #

I’ve never had any birthday traditions.

  71. Danielle P Feb 25 2013 at 2:20 pm #

  74. Evelin Feb 25 2013 at 2:28 pm #

Well for every birthday we just call each other and sing happy birthday. I have a big family and we are very close, so everytime we get a lot of calls. Also, if we all happen to reunite for that special day, we just go out to eat and celebrate! This has been a tradition of ours since we each built our own lives apart. 🙂 We as a family have always believed in finding a way/ time, to reunite even if we have build our lives far away from each other. 😀 Thank you for this opportunity, I am really looking foward to the new book coming out and sending best wishes your way on your Birthday Mrs. Susan. 🙂

  75. molly Feb 25 2013 at 2:28 pm #

From the time I turned 14 until my 24th birthday, I was always traveling for a national debate tournament, first as a competitor in high school and later as a coach and judge. My favorite was on my 18th, when we happened to be in NYC and I got to see RENT on Broadway the day before competition began.

  76. Kelli Spear Feb 25 2013 at 2:28 pm #

No traditions! Just having a good time with friends and family!

  77. Ayrie Feb 25 2013 at 2:37 pm #

When my family calls and they all sign Happy Birthday before I go to school 🙂

  78. Jen Feb 25 2013 at 2:37 pm #

  79. Melissa Feb 25 2013 at 2:38 pm #

Birthday traditions…? No, I don’t think that there is one thing that I’ve done consistently on by birthday. But always try to make a point of spending the time with my family and/or friends. Can’t always see my family on the actual day I was born anymore since I don’t live nearby.

I celebrate my birthday for the entire month of March! It has been a tradition since I was a kid-at 23 my mom still gives me crap about it but I don’t care =)

  84. Meghan Jashinsky Feb 25 2013 at 2:48 pm #

Happy happy birthday! My birthday is pretty much the one day that I only do things I like! It usually involves my husband making me breakfast, and then a family dinner. And of course, a present or two! 🙂

  85. Oliver Feb 25 2013 at 2:52 pm #

On my birthday I LIV IT UP! And have chocolate cake.

  86. Salma Feb 25 2013 at 2:53 pm #

First of all, happy birthday! My birthday tradition is waking up as late as I want and making myself a good and proper breakfast.

  87. Cathy Koos Breazeal Feb 25 2013 at 2:59 pm #

Birthday tradition? Doing sometime active and different — a change of pace. When I was 14, I chartered a Cessna to fly me around my neighborhood and surrounds. When I was 30 and again at 55, I went horsepacking. When I was 50 I went backpacking with my son and his friend into the Mokelumne Wilderness. For my 58th (most recent) I went on a girls’ trip to Ireland with my sister and niece!

Have a wonderful birthday and many more! Don’t look at it as getting older, but yet another year for all your friends to have enjoyed your visit on earth!

  88. Alex Ray Feb 25 2013 at 3:09 pm #

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! hmmmm, birthday traditions… OH! I make a strawberry cake (nothing fancy, just pillsbury from the box), but I always make a strawberry cake. It has to be strawberry or it can’t be my birthday. hehe. Personally I like your tradition better, in a totally self-serving way 😛

  89. jaime Feb 25 2013 at 3:14 pm #

LOL I’m not sure I have any traditions!! How sad is that! I have to share my bday with my twin so i don’t know exactly how special the day really is!!

    Happy Birthday, Susan!!!

I hope you have the best day ever!

I don’t really have birthday traditions, which is a bit sad. Maybe I should start doing something.

First off Happy Birthday * cracks open the champagne*

And I don’t really have any birthday traditions now that I’m older well I guess beer could be considered a tradition lol

My mom makes me a chocolate pie that I don’t share with anyone. I look forward to it every year.

  96. Olivia Feb 25 2013 at 3:51 pm #

Since my birthday is in the summer, my family used to fill up water balloons with really cold water and pepper me with them. They were HUGE! And there was one for every year I was alive.

    By the way happy birthday!

I take the day off work and go shopping with my mom. Happy birthday Susan!

  98. Kacey Feb 25 2013 at 4:26 pm #

I always eat cake in bed at the exact minute I was born–9:18 am. Everyone in my extended family also always calls to sing, birthdays mean a non-stop ringing phone in my family :). Happy birthday!

  99. Katlin Collins Feb 25 2013 at 4:28 pm #

First and foremost, I would like to say happy birthday, Sooz! *cheers*
I wished I had birthday traditions, and I believe I may have to do something about that no tradition thing. *taps forehead in deep thought*

  100. Katelyn Feb 25 2013 at 4:29 pm #

No traditions really, except giving myself a free pass to do not work without feeling guilty. It’s the one day that I just let myself enjoy no strings attached.

  101. Dulcy Feb 25 2013 at 4:43 pm #

I don’t really have a birthday tradition other than saying “Happy Birthday!” And even then my family tend to forget. But, on Christmas eve we give everyone a kiss on the cheek and say “Christmas Eve Gift!”

  102. Megan@The Book Babe Feb 25 2013 at 4:50 pm #

No traditions family wise, but my best friend’s family always does the happy birthday song. LOL. *sings* *has a fast, clapping beat*

A Happy Birthday to you, a happy birthday to you,
may you find Jesus near every day of the year,
a happy birthday to you, a happy birthday to you,

    Happy birthday, girly! (:

  103. Felicity McGrath Feb 25 2013 at 4:55 pm #

I’m a baker so I make my own cake, but my real tradition takes place the day after my birthday when I have cake for breakfast.

  104. Stars Cascade Feb 25 2013 at 4:55 pm #

The kids wake me up early and wish me a happy birthday before I take them to school, and I don’t have to cook! 🙂

  105. Jon Goldhirsch Feb 25 2013 at 5:04 pm #

I hope I get lots of presents!

  106. Kim Trotter Feb 25 2013 at 5:22 pm #

I don’t have a tradition. Either I’ll do something with family or I’ll do something with friends but it doesn’t matter all too much to me. I’ve already hit the big “21” and all the birthdays that have followed are just … not milestones. I always hope by my next birthday I’ll have a lit agent and a book deal, though 🙂

I CAN NOT WAIT for A Darkness Strange & Lovely. Something Strange & Deadly was one of my absolute favoriate book of 2012. I did the love match quiz, turns out I’m either fit for Eleanor or Joseph. No offense to Joseph, but I think I’d rather have a talk with Elanor. She’s just so awesome.

  107. Vivien Feb 25 2013 at 5:24 pm #

No traditions really. Just a dinner with the husband 🙂

  108. Courtney Cadenhead Feb 25 2013 at 5:31 pm #

My parents are divorced and I’m always at my moms for my birthday, but I do get to see my dad for a few hours for dinner and we always go out to eat at On The Border, my favorite restraunt, and gourde ourselves on cookie cake and watch old Disney movies until its time for me to go back to my moms, where me my mom both open our presents the next day because her birthday is only two days after mine.

  109. Lori M. Lee Feb 25 2013 at 5:31 pm #

My birthday tradition is to eat ice cream cake. This year, however, it didn’t happen b/c I gave birth a week prior lol. But I think that’s a good reason to miss the tradition 😛

  110. Tiffany Feb 25 2013 at 5:42 pm #

I liked the quiz thing. I got Joseph Boyer. We get to select what we’re eating on our birthdays. My dad has never failed to pick hot dogs and a refrigerator cookie cake. My brother usually chose homemade korean food. I varied mine from steaks to korean food to pasta!

  111. Tiffany Feb 25 2013 at 5:44 pm #

P.S. Now that I feel like a complete a$$, I should’ve started with: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! And thank you for the giveaway opportunity!

  112. Amber @ Fall Into Bo Feb 25 2013 at 5:50 pm #

Happy birthday!! And thanks for this great giveaway!

I usually go for sushi on my birthday.

  113. Katie Feb 25 2013 at 5:51 pm #

Nope. Can’t say I have too many other than the traditional cake and song. Happy birthday, though! =]

  114. Cassie Feb 25 2013 at 5:52 pm #

I love birthdays and I hope you are loving yours!
My birthday tradition is telling my family I don’t want any gifts and acting surprised when they give me gifts anyway. And when my birthday falls on/around easter, you can bet your bottom dollar I’m having easter eggs for every meal. All week.

  115. Grace Radford/Anna P Feb 25 2013 at 6:05 pm #

    Ice Cream Cake! 😀

Happy birthday Suzanne!!! <3 I can't wait to read this book, UGH I hope I win!!!

  116. Ambur Feb 25 2013 at 6:27 pm #

Hmmm, I don’t really have any standard traditions other than the whole eating cake thing. 😛 I usually go to dinner with my parents, too. 🙂

  117. Laura Kaeding Feb 25 2013 at 6:38 pm #

Happy birthday! My birthday tradition is that I am queen for a day as well! Long live the queen!

  118. Rachael Hanson Feb 25 2013 at 6:42 pm #

I have absolutely no bday traditions. Do eating waffles for breakfast count?

  119. Nara Feb 25 2013 at 6:42 pm #

Other than the cake and blowing out candles, not really 🙂

  120. Serena Feb 25 2013 at 6:42 pm #

For the past few years, I’ve been going on a holiday to a Christmas market for my birthday! it’s December 3rd, so it’s the perfect time to start getting Christmassy.

  121. Danielle Feb 25 2013 at 6:44 pm #

My family and I always go out to dinner on my birthday, get ice cream and watch a movie. Other than that, it’s usually a pretty chill day. 🙂

  122. Ann Feb 25 2013 at 6:53 pm #

My birthday is the day after Christmas, so my husband always takes me out to dinner somewhere nice and then we do something fun (like go to the zoo or a museum) to make it different from Christmas as well as special.

  123. Karin Perry Feb 25 2013 at 7:01 pm #

I actually don’t have any birthday traditions, but I’m glad Sooz does. 🙂

  124. Megan Feb 25 2013 at 7:10 pm #

    I eat cake!

  125. Katherine Adamson Feb 25 2013 at 7:20 pm #

I always wear green because I was born on St. Patrick’s Day.

  126. Leonicka Feb 25 2013 at 8:10 pm #

I actually squealed and clapped my hands when I got Jospeh Boyer! I love him 😀

  127. Anna Feb 25 2013 at 8:25 pm #

We usually go out somewhere with friends and family have a nice meal with birthday cake for fun and just hang out.

  128. Shelver506 Feb 25 2013 at 9:03 pm #

The tradition in our family is the birthday girl/boy gets to pick the meal and dessert. He or she also gets the Special Plate (just a blue plate that says “Congratulations!” but is only used on special occasions) and everyone has to go around and say one nice thing about the birthday girl/boy.

  129. Ashley @ The Quiet C Feb 25 2013 at 9:32 pm #

My parents used to always put my present on the end of my bed in the morning!

  130. Ashley Feb 25 2013 at 9:32 pm #

My parents used to always put my present on the end of my bed in the morning for me to wake up to

  131. Jennifer T Feb 25 2013 at 9:56 pm #

I don’t have any real traditions but I always feel like I MUST spend my birthday with my best friend. <3

  132. Stephanie (Go Flash Feb 25 2013 at 10:23 pm #

I try to take a trip for my birthday every year. At a minimum, I like to have a nice dinner with friends.

  133. Michelle of TTR Feb 25 2013 at 10:24 pm #

Well, my birthday’s on May, and that’s summer here in the Philippines. I like timing our travels abroad with my birthday, but if not, we do eat out for dinner. 🙂 I like being around people who love me the most on my birthday.

  134. Heather Stone Feb 25 2013 at 11:37 pm #

This is a birthday tradition that I have with my sister. Each year we have to create a funny birthday song for each other. Then call and sing it over the phone.

  135. Kaitlyn Feb 26 2013 at 12:03 am #

On my birthday my parents and I go see a movie and grab lunch, then I go buy books. That night we all go out somewhere nice for dinner – usually for Asian or Indian food! We open presents late at night and watch TV and just spend time together. It’s a lot of fun. 🙂

  136. Samantha Feb 26 2013 at 12:10 am #

On my birthday I like to find myself something Peter Pan related as a birthday gift!

  137. Kai A. Feb 26 2013 at 2:24 am #

I always make it a point to celebrate it with my twin brother. We of course lead different lives, but bo matter where we are, we make it a point to be together that day with our family and eat dinner outside. I’ve always celebrated my birthday with my family, so I guess that’s become a tradition for us 🙂

  138. Michelle Sedeño Feb 26 2013 at 2:29 am #

There’s always food! And cake will be always present. 😉

  139. JoelP Feb 26 2013 at 3:00 am #

We throw some Grey Goose in the freezer. Whiles it’s cooling my friends and I hook up any equipment. Mix in a splash of bluegrass, folk, reggae, 60’s pop and chilled drinks; and you have a birthday cocktail.

  140. Llehn Feb 26 2013 at 4:07 am #

Cake! There has to be cake!

  141. Jess Feb 26 2013 at 7:00 am #

Happy birthday! My bday traditions pretty much just involve me sitting around piles of books. I’m kind of boring like that, haha.

  142. Grace Lo Feb 26 2013 at 7:07 am #

I don’t really have a b-day tradition, but I’d always treat myself to a bunch of junk food and a couple of books from the bookstore!

  143. teepee Feb 26 2013 at 7:08 am #

My mom’s spaghetti is always present during birthdays!!! 🙂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  144. Dvora Feb 26 2013 at 7:28 am #

I don’t have any birthday traditions. But I just might start one now! LOL

  145. Shannelle Feb 26 2013 at 8:01 am #

Mostly, all that happens is we buy a cake.

  146. Carina Olsen Feb 26 2013 at 8:10 am #

Ahh! Thank you for this perfect giveaway 😀 You are amazing. <3 And oh, happy birthday 😀 Hope you had an amazing day 🙂 Uhm, weeeell, I don't really do anything special on my birthdays.. Might do so when I get a bit older; since I'm 19 now ;p What I think I have done these past few years is that we always go out to eat on my birthday 🙂 Will continue to do so ;p lol. Anyway. You are amazing 🙂
    Love, Carina

  147. Laura Feb 26 2013 at 10:10 am #

I have a twin sister so the first thing i do is go to her room, wish her a happy birthday also and then we go back to sleep 🙂

  148. Kelley Feb 26 2013 at 10:24 am #

    AWESOME birthday tradition! 😀

    I don’t really have any birthday traditions. 🙁 I guess I’m bo-ring. (Or maybe I’m getting old?)

  149. Aleena Sohail Feb 26 2013 at 10:53 am #

My brother has his birthday on a 5th and me on a 7th so we celebrate our birthdays together on the Sunday nearest to them and individually on our actual birthdays. I always have an ice cream cake on my birthday and at least one family member gives me books as a birthday present 🙂

  150. Taylor K. Feb 26 2013 at 10:56 am #

My family and I always go bowling. 🙂

  151. samc Feb 26 2013 at 12:06 pm #

well, i don’t really have a birthday tradition but my mom always cook something special for me. 🙂

  152. Lea Feb 26 2013 at 2:01 pm #

    Happy birthday!!
And I often have to take an exam on my birthday… but I have a nicer tradition as well: Whereever I am on my birthday, my mom sends me her special peanut butter cake 🙂

  153. Vivianna von Borg Feb 26 2013 at 2:06 pm #

First, Happy Birthday! I swear I almost passed out when I saw this, your awesome second book that doesn’t come out for five months?! Um, yes please!

Ok, so my birthday tradition is allowing my self to go to book stores and let loose, I try to temper my book buying for the rest of the year but on my birthday I give myself a budget of $100 to spend on books. My birthday is actually in 13 days and the best present ever would be an ARC of this book I really want by Susan Dennard *nudge, nudge, wink, wink, nudge, nudge* Ahem, just so you know.

  154. Keyla Feb 26 2013 at 2:18 pm #

On my birthday we always tie notes to balloons and let them off into the air at night and see who’s goes the farthest! 😀

  155. Holly u Feb 26 2013 at 3:44 pm #

I like to go out to eat with the family, usually it’s always at Olive Garden. 🙂

  156. Bernardo Marra Feb 26 2013 at 10:39 pm #

On my birthday I just boss everyone around (family, friends, people at the grocery store’s cash register) for some reason beyond my comprehension, most people are actually okay with it. I’ve got no idea why, it’s not like I threaten them or anything *hides knife*

  157. Laura Hartley Feb 27 2013 at 2:16 pm #

No matter what sort of party I’m having, no matter how big or small, I always have a MASSIVE chocolate costco cake ^^ :))))))

  158. Annah Feb 27 2013 at 2:26 pm #

I think the only tradition for me is that I have to see my mother, or she’ll kill me. She gets mad if I say I’m not going to stop by on my birthday, so I do. o_O

  159. michelle santiago Feb 27 2013 at 6:14 pm #

i always buy a book on my birthday. sometimes two books. but this year i did something different: i bought an e-book as my birthday book.

  160. Johnny Feb 28 2013 at 12:42 am #

I wouldn’t say that I have many birthday traditions. When the Harry Potter movies came out during November, they always seemed to come out during my birthday so I would go see them with one of my sisters and friends. Also, my sister and I always buy each other one present that brings back childhood memories. This past year I got the Power Rangers Movie. Yeah, I got a pretty cool sister!

  161. Julianna Helms Feb 28 2013 at 3:17 am #

So awesome! My brother and I were born on the same day four years apart on different sides of the globe, haha, so a birthday tradition is just seeing who our parents would say Happy Birthday to first. Then, of course, all the puns and teasing. 🙂

  162. Leslie Feb 28 2013 at 9:32 am #

Ever since I became an adult, I started my own tradition of having a birthday cupcake for breakfast. It’s a good way to start the day off, especially if I have to work that day.

  163. Angela Feb 28 2013 at 5:54 pm #

Not really. I go out to eat with my family and friends…

  164. Elisquared Feb 28 2013 at 6:29 pm #

My birthday is my favorite holiday because it is the only day all about me! I end up making the whole month of January into my birthday month, and declare anything I do for my birthday. My family and friends are so nice because they indulge me!

  165. Sara (Page Sage) Feb 28 2013 at 7:53 pm #

Happy belated birthday! Hm birthday traditions… well, on the years that there was no time to bake an apple pie (I’m not a cake person), my parents would get a whole box of Mallomars, stack them strategically and stick a candle in instead. haha

  166. Marius Feb 28 2013 at 8:36 pm #

No birthday traditions, but we do bake a lot of cookies <3

  167. Anastasia Mar 1 2013 at 6:15 am #

OMG! that has o be my favorite book cover! Its sooo gorgeous! Love it!
Hmm…my tradition would probably having two party’s:D One with all of my family, and one with my friends. Oh and I always tend to go out of state for my birthday(:

  168. Connie Mar 1 2013 at 6:17 am #

Happy Birthday. A tradition I have is I never went to school or work on my birthday. I take the day off. I try and do something for me on my birthday because after all its my day!

  169. Joni Mar 1 2013 at 9:47 am #

I know I’m a little late for your birthday… but I proclaim you to still reign in queen-hood for the honorary reason that you’ve written an AWESOME book series! ^.^ I would la-la-love to get a copy of book two!
I don’t really have something I do every year for my birthday- except choose what kind of birthday desert will be served! Last year was fruit pizza… yum… That may be this year’s choice as well…

  170. Isabel Sterling Mar 1 2013 at 12:37 pm #

In my family, how ever many candles are left after you first try to blow them out is how many boyfriends/girlfriends you will have! I didn’t realize until I was older that not everyone has this tradition…it was awkward.

  171. sherry soule Mar 1 2013 at 12:54 pm #

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  172. Nicole Blanchard Mar 1 2013 at 1:30 pm #

My husband started this particular tradition a few years ago. He was leaving the next month for Iraq so these memories are all very bittersweet. For that birthday and every one since then, he’s always found a way to shove cake in my face, romantic, right?

He will be in Iraq this year, so I have to figure out a way to send his coworkers some cake to smash in HIS face. 😉

  173. Emily Mar 1 2013 at 5:57 pm #

My family always takes me to Japanese Steakhouse. Best. Food. EVER!

  174. Teresa Salvatore Mar 1 2013 at 6:30 pm #

Well, sad, but it used to be that the only Birthday tradition I had that was consistent was crying on my Birthday. From as far back as I can remember I also cried. And, as a result, I began to hate my Birthday. So, now the tradition is NO CRYING! And lots of Tiramisu.

  175. Hayley G Mar 1 2013 at 11:24 pm #

Sadly I have no Birthday traditions yet, but I’m still young and have time start some, right? haha. Thanks for the giveaway!

  176. Marianna Mar 2 2013 at 2:39 pm #

No birthday traditions really, which is quite sad. I just usually hang out with my family and friends, and go out somewhere to eat.
    Happy Birthday Susan!

  182. Angela Mar 3 2013 at 11:26 pm #

  183. Meghan Stith Mar 3 2013 at 11:27 pm #

  188. Jennifer Mar 4 2013 at 10:24 pm #

We always go out to a family dinner where I finally get to choose whatever restaurant I want!!!!! Benihana’s here we come (seeing as my birthday is March 23!)

I not really have traditions birthday, go out to dinner with my family and sometimes we call uncle, aunt and cousins too. We’re celebrate together on restaurant 🙂

  197. Karielle Stephanie Mar 8 2013 at 8:06 am #

Back before I moved overseas, it was a tradition between my friends and I to hit downtown and hop around restaurants/desserteries/etc and trying just one thing at each stop, then moving onto the next, rather than buying full meals. They only did this for my birthday because they knew I was the only one who’d be adventurous enough to do something like this, and even though it’s exhausting, they knew it made me happy 🙂

  198. Rachel Mar 8 2013 at 8:18 am #

I don’t really have any birthday traditions! I suppose we do go out to eat to celebrate, but that’s about it. I generally celebrate my birthday doing something fun with my friends.

  199. Amy Taylor Mar 9 2013 at 11:38 am #

I don’t really have any birthday traditions. I just make it a point to go to lunch with my mom sometime during the week.

  200. Alicia Jespersen Mar 9 2013 at 12:01 pm #

This contest comes at perfect timing! My birthday is next week on March 13th! It would be awesome if I won a book for my birthday! My families birthday tradition is the birthday girl gets to choose where they want to go for dinner. That means anywhere you can possibly think of. I’m still unsure what I’ll pick for this year.

Thank you so much for the chance to win!

  201. Allysa Mar 9 2013 at 4:48 pm #

    Happy Birthday!
We always go out to eat for birthdays. We usually try to combine the event since my dad’s birthday is two weeks after mine.

Pancakes smothered in whipped cream, honey and real Canadian maple syrup is the yearly birthday tradition for meeee 😀

  203. Connie Mar 10 2013 at 10:52 am #

I always take the day off on my birthday. No school, no work, nothing. It is MY day to do whatever I want. I go out, or just go to the beach, or buy something new. Its tradition every year…

  204. Emily Sandefer Mar 10 2013 at 8:54 pm #

For someone in my family’s birthday ever since I was little and my birthday present didn’t come in the mail on time for my actual birthDAY my parents decided we would have a birthday WEEK. No extra stuff just the fun of saying ‘It’s my birthday week!’ And birthday week calories don’t count which is a big plus.

  205. Jaime Lester Mar 10 2013 at 11:09 pm #

I don’t really have any traditions for my birthday. My hubby takes me out for a date night and my folks have us and our family up for a pool party. That is all that I need. My family!
