ACID Cover Reveal and Giveaway!

Today at Pub Crawl we’re super excited to welcome author Emma Pass (and a special guest!) to unveil the US cover of her novel ACID. To help kick off celebrations, Emma will be giving away an autographed ARC of ACID!

Now, since we know you’ll only scroll down anyway (and we don’t blame you), here’s the goods (you can click to see it in all its ginormous glory):

That there is Jenna Strong, and she’s ready to kick some serious butt. JUST LOOK AT HER. But what’s the story behind that amazing cover, you ask? Whose butt does Jenna wish to kick? Your wariness is well-advised, dear reader.

We could just give you some regular old cover copy, but when we asked Emma what the story was about, she went one better—she pulled in her protagonist, Jenna, to tell us more.

Hi, um…

Jenna. My name’s Jenna. Strong.

Nice to meet you, Jenna.

Yeah, yeah. So. Can you tell me what’s going on?

What do you mean, what’s going on?

Don’t give me that. You must know something. I was supposed to be in jail for the rest of my life. And now I’ve been broken out and given a new face and a new name and no-one will tell me why. They won’t even tell me who they are.

They?

The people who got me out. They won’t tell me anything. I’m sick of it. I’m climbing the walls in this place. I already tried to escape once, but they’re watching me all the time. They’re worse than bloody ACID.

Who—who are ACID?

Don’t tell me you don’t know who ACID are!

I—I’ve never heard of them.

Where are you from, the past or something? ACID—the Agency for Crime Investigation and Defence. AKA the most sinister police force in history. They’ve been in charge of the Independent Republic of Britain forever. They watch everyone and everything. They even tell you who you can marry and where you can work.

That sounds awful. Like 1984 or something.

What’s 1984?

It’s a book.

A book? Oh, we don’t have those any more. ACID banned them. We have e-Fics instead—all ACID approved, of course.

Wow. That’s crazy. Um, you said you were in jail. Did ACID put you there?

Yes.

Wh—why?

You don’t know?

No…

I murdered two people. My parents. That’s what ACID say, anyway.

What do you mean?

I can’t remember it properly. Everything that happened that night—it’s all mixed up. I was 15—my whole life ahead of me. And then I killed them, and got sent to that hellhole. D’you know I was the only girl there?

The only girl? How did you survive?

I toughened myself up. Fast. But what do you care, anyway? If you can’t help me work out what’s going on here, there’s no point in you hanging around. You’d better go.

OK, Jenna. Thanks for talking to me. And, um, good luck.

Thanks. I’m gonna need it, I think.

Intrigued? We don’t blame you! And today you have a chance to win an autographed ARC of ACID (US only). Use the form below to enter, and leave us a comment telling us whether you’d sink or swim under ACID’s regime! (Me, I would totally sink. I like my luxuries waaaay too much to be a kickass fighter like Jenna!)

Great interview! I’m excited to learn more about Jenna and her story. (And congratulations, Emma!)

In a society like that? I would definitely sink! At least, if I got sent to prison with only guys…yikes! 1984 type fiction gives me the shivers, but this sounds so cool!

Thanks, Renate! I’m not sure what I’d do… I certainly wouldn’t want to get stuck in Mileway!

I would join an underground rebel movement and fight. I like the sound of this. Thanks for the heads up.

I’ve heard about ACID, and it sounds awesome.

I love the character interview instead of back cover copy. So cool! I so want to read ACID now!

  6. Millie Oct 3 2013 at 12:58 pm #

    ACID, just pure awesome.

  7. Megan Parsons Oct 3 2013 at 4:05 pm #

    I would swim!

Love that interview. If I didn’t already want to read the book, that would have sold me right there.

I’d probably dog paddle for a while. Then sink or swim depending if I had help or managed to teach myself enough to stay under the radar.

Love the interview and the book sounds really good! ACID would be the death of me. Telling me who I can marry and what I can do. Not so great when it comes to a dictatorship.

    I would totally fight!

Tell us if you’d sink or swim if you had to survive under ACID!
I would definitely try my hardest to swim through it! I’m SO excited about reading your book! I had just seen it on facebook and I was like…what?! Where was I when this book came out?? lol Sounds SO GOOD!! And THANK YOU SO MUCH for this awesome giveaway!!

I’ve been wanting to read this book since I first heard about it months ago!

And now for the important question – I would definitely SINK. I’m a lawful person (then again, what else would I type here?) 🙂 , but I would have major problems dealing with the repression that seems to occur in ACID.

Acid sounds awesome! I can’t wait to read it. I don’t know if I would sink or swim…I’m thinking I would buy a boat and find a way out. 😉

Thanks so much for the comments, everyone (have been trying to reply individually but the Captcha doesn’t like me!). I hope you all enjoy ACID when it comes out, and good luck with the give-away!

In my wildest dreams, I’d swim but in real life? I would sink. XD

Living in a totalitarian country have made me sensitive about books and movies like this. In my own version of “Independent Republic of Britain”( Islamic Republic of Iran) I experienced all these banned books, banned art, political prisoners, interrogations and dictated confessions and because of that I can’t take a book so simpleminded that its protagonist can take down a régime like that singlehandedly. Of course I hope this book is not one of them. And if it’s not like those Bollywood books, SO GOD HELP ME! I will read it.
Recently I read “The Informationist” and it was absolutely amazing. It’s not about a dystopia in future but Taylor Stevens’ description of a totalitarian republic was so vivid and -of course- true that made the book like a political excavation. I hope your book is like that or even better.
And another thing; these female action heroes are very rare to find ( well-written ones I mean) so if this Jenna is believable, count me as a satisfied and nag-free customer.

Acid sounds so intriguing! I think I wouldn’t sink or swim – probably just drift on the tide and float off in the distance.

  19. Lucy Powrie Oct 8 2013 at 4:22 pm #

I can’t wait until ACID is published in the US and even more people can see how amazing it is. They’re really missing out at the moment!

Love the cover and am pleased to see it’s not too different to the UK cover. I really enjoyed reading the interview; Jenna is such a great character!

I have heard SUCH good things about this book, and can’t wait ’til it’s released in the US!! But I’d totally sink under ACID’s regime – probably. I mean, I’d like to think I’d fight, but I’m kind of a wimp in reality, haha. 😉

  21. Emma Pass Oct 9 2013 at 4:48 pm #

Thanks so much for all your lovely comments, everyone! I’m still having trouble with the Captcha, so I’ve not been able to reply individually, but I’m really happy to see so many people excited about reading ACID. 🙂

I’ve been waiting for this book to come to the US for what seems like forever! 😀

    Oh, and I’m a swimmer. 😉

  26. Jaime Lester Oct 16 2013 at 9:57 pm #

Thank you for the giveaway! I hate to say it because I am a tough girl and I like being tough, but I would probably sink. I need my family! If there was hope of getting out to my family I would fight like crazy. I reckon I might swim. I don’t know. I am just gonna be happy I don’t have to find out!
