So, this is one of those posts that’s hard to write primarily because I don’t even know where to start.
Today is a Big Day—not just for Sarah J. Maas and all of her thousands and thousands of fans—but for us here at Pub(lishing) Crawl too.
Sarah was one of the founders of Let the Words Flow, and LTWF was—of course—where Pub(lishing) Crawl got its start.
Sarah was also (perhaps still is?) one of the BIGGEST and MOST POPULAR authors to ever grace the pages of Fictionpress…and of course, LTWF originally got it’s start thanks to the wonderful community that is Fictionpress.
And amazingly, Sarah started her Throne of Glass journey ten years ago.
TEN YEARS AGO.
Can you guys grasp how long that means we’ve all been hanging on her every word and waiting for this day? The day when Celaena would finally leave the online forums and wind up exactly where she deserves to be: on our shelves.
I know whatever I say will run the risk of sounding cheesy and over-the-top, but I also know I’m not the only person who has been waiting—not patiently at all, I might add—for years and years for Throne of Glass to finally hit stores.
Look, we all work hard to write our novels. I don’t know a single author out there who doesn’t pour their entire soul into their stories…
…But how many of us can say we spent 10 years not only pouring our entire souls into a book, but sharing our souls with each and every reader? To every fan that reached out, Sarah gave her whole heart. For every reader who wanted more Celaena, Sarah wrote more scenes, more chapters, more books. And to every writer who ever asked for help, Sarah lent her hand.
And she STILL DOES IT. Despite receiving hundreds of comments and tweets and Facebook messages each day, Sarah still takes the time to answer everyone.1 How many authors do you know like that? Not many.
Yet, it’s that blatant, unconditional love for her readers that has made us all fall in love with Sarah’s worlds and characters. We all know the person on the other side of the page has just handed us everything she has to offer—we can feel it. Generosity and a true love for storytelling transcend the page. I mean, who can say they didn’t feel every heartbreaking emotion Sarah must have felt as she wrote The Assassin and the Empire?2
It’s no wonder that Throne of Glass has been hailed by Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Romantic Times, and many more critics. And it’s no wonder Sarah’s fans are desperate for any and every word they can get from Celaena’s world. Throne of Glass is not only storytelling at its finest, but it’s emotions at their deepest.
Oh, I can already tell this has turned gushy. I can practically hear Sarah’s husband grumbling at me from SoCal: “Sooz is being creepy again.” And to him I say, “I’m not just Sarah’s friend, you goof. I’m also her FAN, and if you ask any of Sarah’s other fans, they will totally understand where I’m coming from.”
So, while today is a day of GREAT CELEBRATION for all of us fans who have waited and waited and waited for Throne of Glass—who have waited to finally be able to buy a copy and shove it in our friends’ hands, saying, “Read this! NOW!”—today is also a day of celebration for the author behind it all.
Sarah: I know you’re too humble to realize this, but you deserve every ounce of fame and the glory that today—and the rest of your career—will bring. You have earned it by not only writing a truly amazing story, but by always giving, giving, giving to your fans. You loved us and you wrote for us, and now it’s our turn to pay you back by buying the book, spreading the word, and making sure your book reaches as many people as it can.
Happy release day, Sarah. I think I can safely say that I speak for all of Pub(lishing) Crawl, all of Let the Words Flow, all of Fictionpress, and all of your fans when I say, “Congratulations. We love you.”
And also when I say, “Thank GOODNESS it’s finally out.” 😉
And now, to all of our PC readers, help give back to Sarah all that she’s given to us. Tweet, Facebook, comment, and even shout if you feel so inclined about Throne of Glass. And—if you do—make sure you enter our giveaway for a signed copy of Throne of Glass. Just fill out the form below.
- I actually had to step in yesterday and demand Sarah stop answering things! She has been KILLING herself by still trying to respond to everyone, and honestly, the girl needs a break! So, if you email/message/tweet at her today, please be forgiving and don’t expect a response. She should enjoy her big day without having to spend it at the computer, no? ↩
- I have never met another author who cries more when she writes the tough scenes. Or the happy scenes. I have called her before, only to hear her SOBBING. I’ll think someone has died, she sounds so devastated…but no. It’s “just” a character’s death. ↩
I first read what was then ‘Queen of Glass’ on FP, in late 2007, when I was twelve. Before it was taken down, I’d only managed to read it once – that one read has stuck with me for all these years, and now, age eighteen, I’m incapable of expressing how incredibly excited and embarrassingly emotional I am to even have the opportunity to hold this physical manifestation of my fond childhood memories of Celaena and the world Sarah created.
Congratulations to Sarah – this can never be said enough – and thank you for writing this most enchanting, beautiful narrative!!
Congrats Sarah! This is awesome:)
I never read her work before hearing about the release – but I’ve heard awesome things about her talent:)
Thanks so much:)
I’ve been reading since almost the beginning and I’ve always thought she’d be published. I looked forward to every update on fictionpress.com (and fanfiction.net) and even got my roommate into it. After work, I’ll be stopping by B&N to pick up my very own copy and probably bawling my eyes out.
Congratulations Sarah, you really deserve this!
I forgot how I came first across it, but I have never regretted it to this day.
I’m pretty sure I was still in my high school days (God I feel old saying that, even though I have only been out of high school for like 1-2 years now) back when it was Queen of Glass on Fictionpress. I’ll admit, I saw that it was like 70-80 chapters and almost flipped. I almost didn’t even read it because I got terrified of the length. But at some point, I plonked my butt down and slowly trudged through the next few chapters. After that, I got completely hooked.
It took me two straight weeks to read through it all, and I loved every single moment of it. Thank you, Sarah, for writing such an epic series (I’m pretty sure it was a trilogy before, right?) and for introducing me to the Fantasy genre. Before this, the only other type of books that were remotely fantasy-related that I would ever touch was the Harry Potter series. For me, the most fantasy-ish stuff I always seem to come across were the formulaic “Chosen One” kind of stories which I got bored of easily.
But not this story. So even if I will read/hear about negative reviews surrounding this book – my personal bias is always going to pave way because gosh darn it, this book not only kept me completely immersed in the world – characters and all – but it did something that only a few stories have been able to do in my lifetime. It completely messed with my emotions, and got me so attached that I went through the “I want/need these characters to exist or I am going to die of fangirl sadness” phase. Very few books/stories ever get me to that stage, where after I read it – it is basically all I can think about.
So kudos to you, Sarah – and sorry for the long rambling rant. You definitely deserve this, and I wish you all the best for this book and all future endeavors of yours! 😀
I still cannot remember how I discovered Sarah; but I remember that I discover Sarah and Susan at the same time. It was in January of this year, and even before that, as I found her before the novellas came out, but all I can remember is an overwhelming amount of excitement. These stories? They were something different. Something special. (Susan’s is for another time though) And for the next few months I scoured Sarah’s blog, searching for any and all Throne of Glass (then still Queen of Glass) related things.
I checked the calendar everyday, counting down until the release. Sometimes I was happy to forget about it, as it pained me that it was taking so long. I can only imagine what it was like for FP readers. And when they announced the cover… I wanted to fall on the floor into a deep sleep. I had only just given in to the novellas, as I depise electronic books, but once I did I was so happy. I had something to hold be over. Then it was four weeks to release. Then two. Then four days. And now, that the book is FINALLY released, all I can do is keep myself from crying and jumpin up and down cuz it’s four in the morning.
I haven’t known of Sarah J. Maas for very long. But once I read the plot summary for this book, she had me ensnared. And once I read the first page of the book on Facebook, I became a loyal fan of hers. Nothing is ever going to change that. From one page, she is one of my favorite authors, and I am now a lifelong fan.
But now, all I can say is: Congratulations, Sarah. It may be weird, but I love you. With all my heart. All of your future success (and present success) is well deserved and I shall see it through until the end.

WOOOOOOOOO! Sarah, there is DANCING going on here in Australia. I can’t WAIT to see Throne of Glass get all the love it so truly deserves! The world is going to love Celaena!
With a write-up like this, I couldn’t not buy the book. Looking forward to reading it!
I just heard about Sarah’s book a few months ago, but it’s so freaking amazing that she has been working on Throne of Glass for TEN YEARS. That is some serious dedication. Ten years–that’s 2/3 of my life.
I have known for a few months now about Throne of glass and was immediatly drawn to the story. I expect my copy soon.
I have reading her work from almost beginning and read each of the Throne of Glass novella.
I stumbled upon this blog over a year ago. Prior to that, I had never read anything by Sarah. But I then linked over to her blog and never looked back. I am so incredibly excited and proud to see Throne of Glass out in stores. What a talented bunch of folks! 🙂
I’ve only recently heard about Throne of Glass but it sounds absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to read it! 😀
This books sounds so amazing – and what an incredible journey she’s had! Congratulations! Can’t wait to read the book! 🙂
I first heard of Sarah and Throne of Glass a few months ago, and I first read something by her (The Assassin and the Pirate Lord) about 2 weeks ago.
I’ve only known about/picked up Throne of Glass on NetGalley, but I wish I was there for the whole journey! Congratulations Sarah!
Can’t wait to get my hands on this book!! I haven’t known Sarah for long, infact I only came to know about this book in June when I first joined Goodreads but since then I have just fallen in love with this book and have been anticipating it so eagerly. On top of that, I just love Sarah as I have never seen any author before who is soooo nice, funny and wbo just loves her fans ( I have become permanent follower(stalker XD) of her posts and blogs). Love you Sarah and hope you the best on your joirney of fame! <3
I haven’t been reading Sarah’s book but I’ve been hearing about it. Can’t wait to read it.

HAPPY RELEASE, Sarah!!! 😀 😀 <3
I haven’t read her book yet, but I have heard such awesome things and I cannot wait to read it!!
I haven’t really heard of her since Throne of Glass. I need to read it soon! Hearing so many good things for this book <3 Thanks for the chance! *cross fingers*
I first heard of Sarah when I stumbled across the LTWF blog (a few?! couple?!) of years ago. She just seemed so passionate about books and writing, and so down to earth when it came to her fans. When I worked up the courage to comment on one of her blog posts, she made me feel like a friend with her reply!! Fantasy has never been my ‘go-to’ genre, but I decided to give the THRONE OF GLASS novellas a try, if not just to support Sarah. OMG, I was hooked from the first one!! Can’t wait to read the main event. Thanks, Sarah!! Have a great release day!
Sarah Maas is brand new to me. I actually saw the book info on my email this morning. One of 4 new teen books that Barnes and Noble has chosen to mention on release day, behind Patterson’s Never More and Cremer’s Rift. The cover intrigued me and the description made me want to read it. Then I saw a tweet about it! It’s definitely on my to-read list now!!
Almost done reading Throne of Glass (I bought the UK paperback) and I LOOOOOOVE IT!!
I was reading ToG for the first time in 2008 when halfway, it was taken down (I KNOW!). Immediately, I went to check Sarah’s blog and after reading about why she did so, I resolved to follow her until the book was actually published and well, look what we have now!! So happy and excited for her and right after typing this comment I’m going back to finish reading ToG!
I have not read anything but have been watching for this book!
I must admit I’ve never read a book by her before, but I’ve heard great things about this one!~

Squeeee, so happy it is finally released! I’ve been looking forward to THRONE OF GLASS so much, hopefully it gets here fast! *fingers crossed*
Unfortunately, I have only heard about ToG in the last couple of months (a shame, teenage-me would have loved this!), but fantasy is still my favorite genre… I have a feeling every other book on my TBR-pile will have to make way for this one. 🙂
Happy release day, Sarah! *does congratulatory happy dance* I’ve been a blog reader since LTWF and I’m SO happy for you!
I`ve heard about her because of this book which was around February of this year.
!!!!!!!!!! I really don’t know what else to say. So excited for you, Sarah. And thrilled, and proud, and anxious to run to the bookstore and snag a copy for my shelf. Like Sooz said, you deserve ever ounce of success that’s come your way (leading up to this day, and anything that might follow.) Congrats x’s a million. (((hugs)))
Having followed Let the Words Flow and all the contributors’ individual blogs through to PC now for over a year, I’m so excited to finally read this story I’ve been hearing SO much about. Huge congrats to Sarah for all her time, effort, and hard work paying off! Best wishes!! xxx
I loved Throne of Glass and the Novellas <3. Sarah's story about her journey to publication is also truly inspiring. Congratulations again, Sarah!
I read Throne of Glass when it was Queen of Glass on Fictionpress, and I loved it. I remember checking the site daily for new chapters and reading them slowly to savor each one. I took a break from Fictionpress for a while, and when I returned, was so sad to see that the story had been taken down. BUT, that quickly turned into excitement when I saw that Sarah was trying to get the book published. I cheered every time I read an update that Sarah was one step closer to publication. And now that day is here! I have always been a quiet person in person and online, so I haven’t been the most vocal of fans. But, I have been waiting for this day to say to Sarah: Thank you SO much for pouring out everything into this book for your readers. Thank you for sharing your journey to publication with us. Thank you for working so hard to get this book into our hands. You are so talented, and you deserve every bit of this success.
This book looks amazing, I can’t wait to read it! Thanks for doing the giveaway!
I have known about her for a few months, but I haven’t read any of her work. I will totally read this book when I can!
I think I’m the only one here who has not yet read Sarah’s books ><
But, the thing is, the moment I saw it on Goodreads, it just drew me in. I love stories about female assassins and courtly intrigue and I'm only sad that I wasn't able to see the story in its initial stages when it was first on Fictionpress 🙁
If this story is as good as any of the Dramione fanfic that I love <3, I think it will be a blast! I've always wondered about how it would be like if one of my favourite fanfics get published, so I do understand. Congratulations Sarah! And all the readers who supported The Throne of Glass 🙂 Your dream came true!
I haven’y actually read any of her work yet, but I’m looking forward to it! Thanks for a chance at winning this giveaway!
I actually just heard about her & the book, but been hearing good things & can’t wait to read it!
WE LOVE YOU SARAH!!!!! I am so ecstatic for today. You aren’t kidding that we’ve been waiting to see ToG on bookshelves, and to shove it down our friends throats (I already have at least three people ready to go get it today!). I saw a copy out early when I was coming home from California last week. I had already read an advanced copy that I’d gotten and cried when I held that and laughed and cried again and then went through the emotional roller coaster as I read the book, but seeing it on the shelves… it staggered me. I literally fell against the shelf behind me and started sobbing– in the middle of Barnes and Noble. I have no clue if anyone saw me and thought ‘what’s wrong with that crazy chick?’ because I couldn’t take my eyes off that title and Sarah’s name SITTING ON THE SHELF. After ten years of Sarah putting her everything into this book, it makes me so proud to say ‘I know this book is incredible, pick it up and you won’t regret it’ to anyone who happens to be near me as I oggle the book again in my bookstore (the one I write at.) And I am so glad I have you all to celebrate with!!! CONGRATULATIONS, SARAH!!!

*so much love gushing from me right now! Ugh!*
I luckily found the book on Netgalley to review and I loved it! I never heard about it before then but I’m always telling people it’s my favorite book of the summer. I can’t wait to have it on my shelf!
I’ve only heard about this book in the last few months, but I knew immediately that it would be a book for me. I can’t wait to read it!
I’m a newcomer to Sarah’s work but pleased to be here nonetheless. I’ve heard great things about Throne of Glass and I’d love to win a copy. Thanks.
I just recently heard about author Sarah J. Maas from the overwhelming word of mouth of ToG by readers, but I haven’t read anything of hers as of yet =( ToG is def. on my tbr list! Thank you for the giveaway & Congrats, Sarah!!
I haven’t heard about Sarah long. Just a few months. But I have seen how dedicated she is. I’m so eager to read Throne of Glass. Knowing that she has spent 10 years perfecting it just makes me want it more!!! Congrats 🙂
I found out about Sarah not long ago, actually. But, omg, it seems I’ve been waiting for this book forever! Can’t wait to get my hands on it, which will happen later today!
Congrats, Sarah! I’ve only read the first novella, but I adored it and I’ve been anticipating the release of THRONE OF GLASS for a while. It’s so awesome when an author is deeply involved in her community of fans. We appreciate the love and, of course, we want to give love back! Can’t wait to read ToG!
Congratulations Sarah! I’ve been so excited about this book ever since reading the blurb about it months ago! It sounds so awesome! I’m glad it’s finally out!
Ever since it got on goodreads! So what? Like, 1-2 years? And I read an ARC two months ago. WOWZERS. I NEED MOORREEE
I’ve actually never read Sarah J. Maas, but I’ve heard so SO much about this book that I’m dying to read it. Chick assassins are right up my alley!
I’m excited to read THRONE OF GLASS. Congrats to Sarah J. Maas. I celebrate her wonderful kindness 🙂
Congratulations and happy release day, Sarah! I’m so excited to get my hands on a copy of Throne of Glass and start devouring your story!
I read Throne of Glass when it was QoG on FP years ago, and followed Sarah’s journey to publication ever since. That’s also of course how I started reading LTWF and Pub Crawl as well! I am so proud of Sarah, and SO excited to go buy ToG!!! I actually had a DREAM last night about going to the bookstore to buy it (it had a whole shelf to itself, too), that’s how excited I am! CONGRATS, SARAH!
I’ve only heard of Throne of Glass, but I read a post about her writing process and I think it’s awesome that she started writing it when she was only sixteen!
Congrats Sarah!!! WOW TEN YEARS?!?!? That’s incredible! And now all your hard work has paid off! I can’t wait to get my copy in the mail 🙂
Probably about a year or so? I read Throne of Glass about 5 months ago and I’m just SO excited for Sarah!!!!
Perhaps two months ago I heard of Sarah because of Throne of Glass blog posts, especially in all the BEA haul posts from book blogs. It seemed like everyone only had great things to say about her new book. And from there I was intrigued.
Pub Crawl is where I first heard about Sarah. This is quite a day for her!
Actually, this will be the first book I read from Sarah. *gasps* I know 😀 But I am very very excited about it!
I think I first heard about Throne of Glass a year ago, when I found out about the Pub(lishing) Crawl blog. I thought this book sounded awesome and now that it’s out I can’t wait to read it. Happy Book Birthday to Sarah!
My next boom on my to read list!
I meant book
I’m so, so happy!! I’ve been there since fictionpress days. I haven’t gotten my pre-ordered copy yet! So, I’ll be sitting by the door, waiting! 😀
I only just learned about Sarah’s book in June but it totally caught my attention! This is the type of book that I love to read. And the story and effort behind it is inspiring in so many ways! Congratulations Sarah Maas, you deserve this day!
I actually just became familiar with her this year, when I started reading YA book blogs for book recommendations.
I first read about THRONE OF GLASS in an interview done by Mother. Write. Repeat. with Sarah’s agent. That was back in 2011. I remember staring at the words “assassin Cinderella” and becoming completely enamored. So, I’m one of the newer Sarah fans, but I have a feeling I’ll be one for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. 😉
Since the cover release I saw on a blogger’s site! Such a great cover.
Oh, Sarah! A thousand times congratulations! You’ve worked SO hard for this, girl, and deserve all the success that’s coming your way. You’re so gracious and humble and—let’s face it, totally adorable. *glomps* Bask in it, love, because there’s only more to come. That’s for sure. We’re hailing it from the rooftops—THRONE OF GLASS is released upon the world! Finally! Lots of love and best wishes. <3
Congratulations!! It’s amazing to finally see this in print, in bookstores! This is an example of real determination and a writer’s dream. May you have many future successes in the world of publishing. Throne of Glass is only the beginning, after all :).
I heard about THRONE OF GLASS right before this year’s BEA. I can’t imagine waiting as long as you all. Just waiting for the last few months nearly killed me!
I’ve heard about Throne of Glass a few months back and there was a lot of buzz about a kickass assassin, so I’ve been dying to read it ever since!
I heard of Sarah a few months back in a post by Mandy Hubbard. Am looking forward to reading her work.
“How long have YOU known or been reading stuff from Sarah J. Maas?”
I can’t remember the exact date that I found Throne of Glass (then Queen of Glass) on fictionpress.com but it definitely pre-2005 because I was still in high school. The story was already well underway by that point and I found myself devouring every new chapter and plot twist that Sarah threw at us. I read the story all throughout university and I was deeply saddened when it was no longer up (of course I had read it all by that point) but I was utterly thrilled when I found Sarah’s blog and I have been been following her ever since. I was a part of her YAHOO group and read her brilliant fantasy “A Faraway Land”. I eagerly anticipating her next book and I am ridiculously honoured to be able to call her a friend, even though we’ve never met.
*crosses fingers* I might have already bought, read, devoured and adored “Throne of Glass” but I would LOVE a signed copy!
I’ve heard about this book for sooo long but was waiting for my library to get it!
I’m so excited that it’s such a huge phenomenon now. I can’t wait to read it!
I think I actually first heard of Sarah through Susan – I remember her talking about being excited about Throne of Glass finally being published. Ever since I’ve been anticipating its release, and can’t wait to read it!
I only learned about Throne of Glass a few weeks ago because of advance reviews and I have bought the four prequels from amazon and read the first, two so far and I can’t wait to read the rest and read Throne of Glass!
Never. But that has CLEARLY got to change.
COngrats!
Laura x
I haven’t read her work before, and I hadn’t heard of her before reviews of Throne of Glass started being released. I’m very excited to see what everyone raves about! I only hear good things!
I haven’t read Sarah J. Maas’ work before, but I’m really looking forward to diving into Throne of Glass! It sounds like my kind of story. Thanks for the giveaway!
This is her first book I want to read 🙂
thanks for the giveaway!
I just discovered Throne of Glass recently when it became popular! 🙂
Awww so excited to get this book! I just heard the buzz about this book and decided to check it out and Sarah’s profile. Amazing that she began with fiction press! What discipline to stay with it for 10 years.
Lo
I’ve been reading her on Pub Crawl and LTWF for forever, but this will be the first I’ll read her fiction. I’m so excited!
I first heard about Sarah’s books a few months ago and I cant wait to read Throne of Glass!
CONGRATS!
Enjoy the fruits of your success, Sarah!
I first heard about Sarah and the Throne Of Glass about 3-4 years back, when I first joined AW and Sarah had just gotten her book deal. Some of my writer friends had read the original version on fictionpress and they couldn’t stop gushing about it. I remember how everyone’s been so excited about it – I think everyone felt that universal motivation that you sometimes feel when something amazing happens to one of us and the rest feel like even the craziest dreams are possible.
And the day’s finally here!
Congrats, congrats, Sarah!
It’s been wonderful following your success. Can’t wait to read ToG 🙂
I am sad to say that I only recently discovered the amazing works by Sarah. I picked up a copy of Throne of Glass at ALA, and I am so glad that I did because I have been missing out big time.
I’ve only just discovered her writing this week, but I am already a fan! Congratulations, Sarah! Your enthusiasm for this story is contagious!
So excited to read this! I discovered Sarah’s blog about a year ago and am so excited to see THRONE OF GLASS published! Congratulations, Sarah!!
Found out about her this year after her cover came out 🙂
It’s been a long while since I’ve read the first draft of QoG on FP. I’ve already placed an order for the book but I’d love to win a signed copy!
Haven’t read anything of hers yet. I first heard about it (Throne of Glass) a few months ago when it started getting amazing reviews, now because of that I just have to have a copy!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Actually, I haven’t read anything of hers yet, but I’m really excited for Throne of Glass, because I’ve heard it’s really good, and now I need to have a copy. Thanks for the giveaway!
I first read Throne of Glass (then Queen of Glass) on FP a while back and I am super thrilled that it is finally being published after all this time. I’ve been following Sarah’s blog and I just love how she is so down to earth and humble. Congrats Sarah!
This would be the first time 🙂
I stumbled across LTWF about a year ago, now, and started following Sarah’s blog individually–because her posts were so good–soon after. So one year out of the total ten. I can’t imagine spending ten years on the same book and being so patient (well, forced patience, because there was no other choice) for it to be born into the bookstores/world/libraries. So excited to read it!
I am so excited about this book. It is my favourite birthday present. I’m reading it slowly to savour it, but it is killing me to read it like that! I want to whizz through it because it is so amazing. 4 years of waiting is finally over and not a moment too soon.
I’ve only just recently been introduced to Sarah J. Maas. I have read Throne of Glass and all of its novella.
It’s my first book by Sarah but I’m so excited to read it, but I’m sure it won’t disappoint me 🙂
I’m honestly just holding back the sobs now. I finished the book like an hour ago an alshaurhwirie so many feels. Can I have the sequel now?
CONGRATULATIONS, SARAH!!!
Throne of Glass is FINALLY here
It’s difficult to find knowledgeable people for this topic, however, you sound like you know what you’гe talking about!
Thanks
Here is my weblog – wow gold and leveling
